1. We are happy to welcome you in our campus. Please read this information
carefully. It will help you to settle as quickly as possible and make your stay as
enjoyable as possible. We are proud to say that our school is one of the most
famous and well-reputed school in Britain. In summer it turns into an international
scientific center. Students from different countries aged 15-17 live and study here
for a month and a half. All our students come here after participating in Math
competitions in their own countries and in different international mathematical
contests.
2. The school is located in a quiet historical village. The campus consists of
several buildings. The central and the highest building in the campus is our
administrative center. Lecture halls, chemical lab, the library and the computer
center are here too. To the right of the central building, there are students’
accommodations. All the rooms are nicely furnished, and there is a satellite TV in
the students’ lounge. To the left of the central building there is a students’ café.
Just behind it one can see an old building made of red brick. Sports equipment like
bicycles and boats are stored there.
3. All students have breakfast, lunch and dinner in the students’ café at 8.00,
13.00 and 18.00 correspondently. Lectures start at 9.00 and last till 13.00. After
lunch students work in teams on their projects from 14.00 up to 16.00. After that
they have a wide range of various activities to choose from: sport games on the
sports ground, drama lessons, TV, music performances and so on. Students
should be in their rooms by 11.00.
4. Most lectures are given by university teachers. Like students, they come from
different universities but all the lectures are delivered in English. We are sure that
you appreciate the diversity. The permanent staff of the school is always available
in the administrative center. They can advise you on any academic issues,
recommend additional reading on the topics and answer your questions.
5. Though it’s summer and holiday time, your lecture attendance is compulsory.
You can miss a lecture if you are ill and have a doctor’s permission to stay in your
room. Our school doctor is available round the clock in the central office.

You are going to read about Oxford University. Mark the statements under the text as “True”,

The city of Oxford has existed since 912. Oxford University was founded in 1249.
Today it consists of 35 independent colleges and 5 “halls”. Every year more than one
thousand students from different countries enter Oxford University. The entrance exams are
difficult. It is necessary to work hard to become a student of Oxford. Moreover, students have
to pay for their studies.
The academic year in England has 3 terms which usually last from the beginning of
October to the middle of December, from the middle of January to the end of March and from
the middle of April to the end of June.
Examinations take place at the end of each term. If a student fails in an exam, he may
be allowed to take it again. Only two reexaminations are usually allowed.
The University of Oxford has a tutorial system of education: every student has a tutor
who plans his work. Each week some students come to see him, they discuss different
questions connected with their studies, they tell their tutor about the work they have done.
The students of Oxford spend their morning hours working. They have lectures and
seminars. At two they have dinner which lasts till four. After tea they continue their studies.
The life of the students at Oxford is very interesting. The University has many societies
and clubs, enough for every interest. Almost all the students go in for some kind of sport.
