Competitive Dance Information Sheet In order to better accommodate everyone’s needs; I have changed the format of how our competitive program will be offered. Instead of an all-inclusive price and “all or nothing” commitment structure, I have made the Competitive Dance Team optional. This means if you are not able to commit to all 3 of the competitions we attend, you can still participate. Dancers who wish to be on the Team will have to be able to commit to all 3 competitions, and will be required to purchase a costume. Black Hip Hop sneakers required. All other competition entries (solos, duos, etc.) will be offered in an “a la carte” fashion, and you may choose to enter in one, two, or all three competitions. All entries not participating on the team will be responsible for their own costume, or you may choose to order one through our costume supplier. I also have some costumes at the studio that I am willing to sell for ½ price. Please see me if you are interested. *Not all competition entry fees are the same, however for simplicity’s sake I have rounded out the fees to be all the same. The prices below include HST, choreography, music editing, and extra rehearsal time. Dancers are to deduct $10 per entry, per competition if they are choreographing their own entry.* It makes for a bit more math this way, but hopefully it will better suit everyone’s financial and time commitment needs more efficiently. Here is how to do the math: Registration fee: $45, due at registration Total Due Sept 30th __$45.00____ Costume – Usually around $65 Total Due Oct 15th ____________ Champions - $55 for team_________ $55 other group ______ $65 duo/trio__________ $75 solo ____________ Total due Nov 15th ____________ 5678 Showtime - $55 for team_________ $55 other group ______ $65 duo/trio__________ $75 solo ____________ $150 convention______ Total due Dec 15th ______________ Limelight - $55 for team_________ $55 other group ______ $65 duo/trio__________ $75 solo ____________ Total due Jan 15th ______________ In the event a dancer must withdraw from the team (or other dances), the $45 registration fee will be refunded up until December 21st. All other fees cannot be refunded once they are sent in (after due date). This includes costume fees and competition fees, as these companies have a no-refund policy. Once I send the money in I cannot get it back. Fees are sent one day after due date. No refunds after December 21st. Requirements for Competitive Dancers - Must be at least 9 yrs old Must have at least 1 yr of dance experience (any style) Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 1 recreational class per week at Digby Dance Studio (any style) Must be willing to work hard and maintain good attendance in ALL classes Deadline to register is September 30th 2011 Dancers who wish to enter competitions must be willing to work hard and take their dancing seriously. Competitions are a lot of fun and very rewarding, but it is really for the more serious dancers who have a real commitment to dance. Dancers will be expected to maintain a good attendance in both their competitive classes and their recreational classes. In some cases I may accept dancers younger than 9 if they show exceptional talent and maturity levels. If you have a child younger than 9 who is interested please contact me. You do not have to be an advanced dancer to enter the competitions, but entering the competitions will help you become a more advanced dancer. More Information for Parents Deadline to register is September 30th 2011. The first Team rehearsal will be Sunday October 2nd, 2011 (7:00-8:00pm) If you are not on the team but are in a solo/duo/trio, a schedule of your choreography/rehearsal time with me will be worked out individually. If you are choreographing your own entry, you may use one of the side rooms to practice any time during regular class hours. Self choreographed entries may be asked to stay after Sunday rehearsals at times for a few minutes so I can watch your dance and give you feedback. Parents are encouraged to attend the competitions with their children. I may be able to share a ride or hotel room with someone but I am not able to chaperone younger dancers for the entire event. If a dancer is only in one dance they will only be required to attend on the day they compete, which means you do not have to get a hotel room. However, it is allowed and encouraged for the dancers to watch the other students from Digby Dance Studio and all of the other dance schools. Admission to most competitions is free (but you may have to pay for a program) for both dancers and parents, so coming to watch all of the other dances is a great opportunity! The competitions will have “host hotels” which will offer a discounted rate if you tell them you are there for the competition. You are not required to stay at that particular hotel, so if you are staying the night you may choose a different hotel or even stay with friends or relatives in the area. Trying to decide which competition to attend? Champions (local)- Rewards ALL dancers with medals according to how well they scored. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded to top dances. I find champions judges the dancers a little bit easier, and I recommend this competition for new/beginner dancers. Limelight (local)(At time of print we have not yet attended this competition. Please see me in person to ask about this one) 5678 Showtime (National/International)– This is considered “the big one”. Dancers have the opportunity to attend Nationals; and top dancers are invited to Dance World Cup, which showcases dancers in countries all over the WORLD! Trophies and cash prizes are given out only to top dancers, and an all-day convention is offered (optional) in which students can take classes from dancers from the tv show “So You Think You Can Dance”!
