SHOW RULES AND
REGULATIONS
13.
a. All entries are made subject to the Rules and Regulations and
by-laws of the RAS and West Otago A&P Society. Exhibitors
or persons entering this show shall be deemed to accept and
be bound by these By-Laws Regulations and procedures.
1. All entries to be made in writing on the official entry form or
via www.showdayonline.com, and should be lodged with
the Secretary before 5 pm on Saturday 8th NOVEMBER
2014.
2. Exhibitors are specially requested to forward their entries as
early as possible, and thus facilitate the preparation of the
Show Catalogue, and to state in legible figures the number
of the class in which each exhibit is to be placed.
3. Late entries will incur a penalty of $20 per exhibitor.
4. Entry forms must be filled in by the exhibitor or some
person authorised by him or her, and no entry will be
received except on the express condition that the exhibitor
will comply with and submit to the Rules of the Society in all
respects. A copy of the Rules can be had at any time on
application to the Secretary, for a fee of $10. Unsigned
entry forms agreeing to these conditions will not be
accepted, unless received via www.showdayonline.com,
when the process of entering is deemed as accepting the
Rules and Regulations and by-laws of the RAS and West
Otago Society.
5. All entries must be made in the name of the bona-fide
owner of the exhibits.
6. The ages of all stock must date from August 1st in each year,
except Cattle – June 1st.
7. Persons in charge of exhibits must produce their entry
tickets to the gatekeeper.
8. An entry fee will be charged to competitors in Sheep and
Cattle of $6.00 unless otherwise specified. Horses entry fee
will be $7.00. All exhibitors are required to pay a $5.00
administration fee – this includes the cost of St Johns and a
Catalogue.
9. All exhibitors of stock will need to provide their own forage.
MEMBERSHIP
10. Gates will be open to the public at 9 am and will be closed at
5 pm. The prices for admission will be: -Adults $15; Children
under 16 free; Vehicles N/C
11. On payment of the annual fee of $20 for the year a ticket
will be given which will admit two adults & family under 16
years of age, on presentation to all the Society's exhibitions
during the year.
PRIZES
12. Standard points for all most points presented are: -Where
there are five entries or more: 1st…6 points – 2nd …4 points –
3rd …2 points – 4th…1 point. Where there are less than five
entries: 1st…6 points – 2nd…4 points – 3rd…2 points – 4th …nil.

special classes points do not count. In classes where there is
only one exhibitor points count half. In the event of a tie for
any cup or trophy the winner of he greatest number of first
prizes takes precedence. Points for trophies presented prior
to the 1960 Show will be awarded as set out in rules when
trophy presented.
Whilst all cups and trophies will be presented when
awarded, they are to be returned to the steward prior to
winner leaving the ring.
Any prize awarded shall lapse if not applied for within three
months from date of award.
The Committee reserve the right to allot specials in lieu of
prize money mentioned in this programme.
All prizewinners are to parade. Equestrian exhibitors will
forfeit Prize Money if they do not parade. Prize money for
this area will be paid after the exhibitor has paraded.
No games of chance or gambling of any kind will be allowed
within the Ring.
No person to make any drawing of stock or machinery
without the consent of the owner, obtained through the
Secretary.
The Committee will not, under any circumstances, hold
themselves responsible for any loss, damage, or misdelivery
of stock, implements, or other articles exhibited or taken on
to the Showground.
Supreme Awards for Sheep, Cattle, Equestrian (Miniature,
Horse and Pony), Trade Display and Show Market will be
awarded after the Opening Speech at the Grand Parade.
Grand Parade will be held at 12.30 pm approx.

It is a requirement that ALL cattle over the age of 30 days
will be correctly identified using an official primary and
secondary ear tag from the AHB or MINDA identification
programme as implemented on 1 July 1999.
All cattle must have in their ears the official primary and
secondary ear tags.
All classes in which cows in milk are entered must be
judged first, and all other stock will be judged in order it
appears in the catalogue.

CATTLE - Nait 444248
BEEF CATTLE
West Otago A&P NAIT number: 444248. It is the exhibitors
responsibility to notify NAIT when bringing an animal to the
Show, and again when you take it home. The Show will
not be communicating i.d's to NAIT.
All led Bulls (born before 31 December last) must have a
ring through the nose and be led by two leads and be
under adequate supervision. It is compulsory that all Beef
Females (born before 31 December last) be led by a halter
and nose clip. Two Handlers are allowed with Senior Bulls
whilst they are parading in the Show Ring.
TB
All animals entered for showing must be from a current TB
Clear Status herd.
a copy of the current TB test certificate must be attached to
the entry form. The Society must be notified at the time of
entry of any testing to be carried out after the closing date
of entries or of any potential TB issues that may arise after
entries have been submitted. Owners entering cattle must
sign any declaration printed on the entry form.
There are two documents required under the Animal Health
Board regulations.
First document is a TB Test Certificate. For animals from a
Declared Movement Control Area - all animals aged three
months or older are to be tested and have a clear test
within 60 days prior to being moved to the Show. All other
animals must be from a herd that is up to date with it's
current routine TB testing requirements.
Second document is a TB Animal Status Declaration Card.
all animals entered must be accompanied in transit by a
signed and dated TB Animals Status Declaration Card
showing a TB Clear status in accordance with present
legislation. Animal individual numbers must be included on
the TB test sheet. these cards may be inspected at the

WESTHOLM TROPHY for Supreme Beef Exhibit

Conditions:- Cup to be awarded to the best registered
Purebred Beef animal. 1. For this purpose the Champion
of each breed shall be paraded in the judging ring. 2.
Each judge will be issued with a card on which he will enter
his first, second, third and fourth awards. At the conclusion
of the judging these cards will be handed to the Senior
Steward who will award points of six, four, two and one on
each card. The animal then gaining the most points will be
the winner. Should there be a tie in the number of points
the animal with the most firsts will win. The Stewards shall
then line the animals up in the order in which each judge
has judged them and the judges name shall be announced.
Finally, the animals shall be lined up in order of placing in
accordance with the number of points gained. 3. Grand
Parade will be led by the winner of this trophy and its breed
to follow, then others in catalogue order.

Rules of Entry
Points will be accumulated at any of the following shows:
West Otago, South Otago, Tokomairiro, and Otago Taieri.
To be eligible for the final points prize you must attend at
least two of the above shows and one being Otago Taieri
Show where the final will be judged.
Age of exhibitor: Up to and including 16 years as at 30
November 2014.
Can enter on the day
Animals to be a calf for 10 years and under, and wither a
calf or yearling for those 11 years and above.
Animals to have no horns.
To be judged on presentation of the handler and the
handling of the animal.
To be judged by the nominated breed judges outside the
ring.
Dummy judge inside the ring.
Points: 1st-5, 2nd-4, 3rd-3, 4th-2, 5th-1.
In the event of the final placing being tied the exhibitor with
the highest placings will be deemed the winner. If still a tie
will be up to the judges on the day.

OVINE BRUCELLOSIS CERTIFICATES: It is compulsory
that all male sheep excluding lambs entered in the sheep
section of this show be accompanied by a photocopied
certificate signifying that they are from a Brucellosis
accredited flock. This document is to be signed by a
practising veterinarian, and be for the current year of
showing.
Sheep, except those in commercial ewe classes, must be
shorn between July 20 and not later than one calendar
month prior to the show. All sheep to be fairly shorn.

YARDS are available for hire at $5.00 per night. Bookings
essential. n.b. the sheep pens and cattle pens are NOT to be
used on Friday night. Covered stalls will be used on show day so
if you have been allocated one of these stalls Friday night take
all your gear with you during the show.
There are to be NO tape sensors for horse pens on the grounds
under any circumstances.
RIDERS MUST CARRY THEIR HEIGHT CERTIFICATES ON THE DAY.
Failure to do so will result in elimination. Measuring 7.00 8.00a.m. for Day Height certificate - fee $10.00.
All equestrian exhibitors are required to use a breast plate
number holder or back number. Back numbers will be available
on the day.
The use of Prefixes on Horses and Ponies must be those of the
Breeder.

Once a horse or pony commences the season as a Hack, or
Saddle (Flat) Hunter, or Saddle Pony or Hunter (Flat) Pony, that
horse or pony should not be able to transfer to another section
during the show season.
It is compulsory for all stallions, regardless of age, to wear an
identification badge 'S' at all times.
No horses will be allowed to practice in the ring prior to judging.
Abuse of horses in any form as provided in Rule 52 (RAS
Equestrian Competitors & Judges Rule Book & Guidelines) and
Article 143 (FEI General Regulations)
Whips in ridden classes shall not exceed 76cm in length.
Competitors in Led Classes may carry a dressage style whip,
however Horses and Ponies showing welts from whip abuse will
be immediately dismissed for the ring and disqualified without
further recourse for the remaining events at that Show.
Inappropriate behaviour towards Show Officials, Judges, fellow
competitors or any other third party connected with the show
bringing the equestrian discipline into disrepute, or cases which
are of a less serious nature to the above in accordance with the
Conduct of Members, Owners, Lessees, Competitors and/or
Exhibitors as provided in the RAS Equestrian Competitors &
Judges Rule Book and Rule 13 of the RAS Constitution.
(Inappropriate behaviour constitutes any behaviour deemed by
the President of the Show or their duly appointed delegate
and/or the Chief Ring Steward that brings the equestrian sport
into disrepute, including but not limited to inappropriate
language, swearing, cheating or deliberately attempting to work
outside of the generally accepted show rules and protocols.
Wearing a hard hat (hunting cap, bowler, protective headwear
or safety helmet) is compulsory for anyone competing on,
working in or schooling or riding for any other reason a horse at
the Show or in any area considered to be for what ever reason a
part of the Showgrounds.
All riders 16 and under must wear protective headgear, which
includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than
two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap
properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the
practice area collecting rings or anywhere else within the
Showgrounds.
It is strongly recommended that all riders, particularly those
jumping horses wear protective headgear conforming to the
current NZ Safety Standard or an equivalent standard and that
the headgear be secured by a retention harness.
Any electronic or audio equipment carried on a competitor
deemed to be possible of outside assistance to a competitor is
banned from all competition, with the penalty of forfeiting all
prize money, awards and qualifications and elimination from
any further classes at the Show.
FORBIDDEN SUBSTANCES
The use of tranquillisers, stimulants, or any drugs capable of
affecting the performance of horses & ponies is forbidden.
Competitors are advised that a test for forbidden substances
may be carried out during the Show & that testing of all animals
is at the owner's risk. Testing for forbidden substances will be
carried out under the Royal Agriculture Society Forbidden
Substance Judiciary Committee (FSJC)procedures & rules (refer
rule 89 RAS Equestrian Competitors & Judges Rule Book & rule
57-58 of the RAS General Rules & Regulations.
Our Equestrian Convenor may issue a yellow card instead of
fines or other penalties as indicated in the RAS affiliated Show
Rules and Regulations to the Person Responsible (PR) in the
following instances:
Section Championships are judged from the winners in the
conformation classes. Reserve Championships are judged from
the eligible winners and the second placed exhibit to the
champion.
Paced and Mannered Horse and Pony Championships will be
judged from the winners of all paced and mannered open
classes after the completion of section judging. Horses will be
judged in the Derby Ring, and Ponies will be judged in front of
the Grandstand.
SUPREME HORSE & SUPREME PONY will be judged at end of
section judging.
The Committee have the right to make any alterations to the
timetable or withdraw / combine any classes / sections as may
be deemed desirable once entries are closed.

Wyndham, Waiau, Winton, Gore and Southland Shows in

Sections. To be eligible to receive this award, the horse
must compete at the 2014 Southland A&P Show.
The horse with the highest aggregate of points as allocated
below to receive a Grand Champion rug sponsored by
PGG Wrightson.
Points Allocation: Champion 2 points, Reserve Champion 1
point, Supreme Champion 1 additional point.
In the event of a tie, the following count back system will
