All seniors and their guests are required to ride the bus to Magic Mountain and must sign an R.U.S.D. parent permission slip which includes an agreement to follow R.U.S.D. and Magic Mountain rules and regulations. Seniors and guests must both have parent permission to attend. Guests may be North students enrolled in grades 9-11 or off-campus students who are currently enrolled in high school, receive permission from their high school, and are pre-approved by North administration. Guests who have been expelled or are currently enrolled in a program for expelled students will not be allowed to attend. Due to district transportation guidelines, the deadline to purchase Grad Nite tickets is Friday, May 2. After May 2, only the cost of the Magic Mountain ticket is refundable ($53). Thursday, April 24: Senior Exhibition Day Time: Appointments will be scheduled between 1:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Place: Dress: North High School classrooms Dress for success Ladies: Professional dress or pantsuit, dress shoes Gentlemen: Dress shirt & tie, dress pants, dress shoes (coat optional) (Seniors do not attend regular classes on this date) Description: Senior Exhibition provides seniors with an opportunity to demonstrate, through effective oral communication, mastery of career readiness and academic proficiency. Seniors will present a project developed at any time during the past four years. Presentations must be a minimum of five minutes and a maximum of 9 minutes, including a question and answer period. A maximum of one minute may be used for technology such as a video or DVD. A PowerPoint may be used as a visual aid, but is not to be read from as a presentation. Seniors will check in at Room #323 where they will receive their scored Senior Exhibition Portfolio. The portfolio is to be given to the panel of judges, and will be returned to seniors upon completion of their presentation. Students who violate the Prom Contract may be removed from the Prom and seniors who violate the Senior Behavior Contract may be removed from the Prom and end-of-the-year senior activities including Commencement, Senior Breakfast, and Grad Nite. Tuesday, April 29 & Wednesday, April 30 Senior Speech & Performance Tryouts Time: Place: Description: After School Choir Room Speakers may be chosen for various senior activities such as Awards Night, Baccalaureate, Senior Breakfast, and Commencement. Speeches should be 2-3 minutes in length. For tryouts, speeches must be practiced and in final form. Talented seniors may also audition to perform at various senior activities such as Awards Night, Baccalaureate, Senior Breakfast and Commencement. A wide variety of acts in the form of instrumental/vocal soloists or groups, speeches or dramatic interpretations are encouraged. For tryouts, performances must be practiced and in final form. Seniors interested in trying out must be in good standing with the Attendance and Discipline Office. Seniors must sign up with Mrs. Grotness by Monday, April 28. Wednesday, May 28 Commencement Ticket Distribution Time: Place: Senior Meeting (4th Period) Gym Description: Commencement tickets will be distributed in the multi-purpose room to seniors. Each senior will receive 7 free tickets to the Commencement Ceremony. A ticket will be required for entry to the J.W. North Stadium. Tickets will not be required for children under 5 years of age. Please be reminded that extra tickets will not be available. As an alternative to the Commencement Ceremony, extended family and friends are encouraged to attend the Baccalaureate Ceremony on June 5, where seating will not be limited. Wednesday, May 28: Cap and Gown Distribution Time: Place: Lunch Multi-Purpose Room Description: Caps and gowns will be distributed in the multi-purpose room to all seniors who have placed an order with Jostens. Thursday, May 29: Senior Awards Night Time: Place: Dress: Description: 6:30 p.m. Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church 1910 Martin Luther King Boulevard Riverside, CA 92507 Ladies: Dress or dressy pantsuit, dress shoes Gentlemen: Dress shirt & tie, dress pants, dress shoes (coat optional) This traditional ceremony honors the achievements of the Class of 2014. The ceremony will be held off campus at Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. Students to be honored will receive an invitation in the mail. Most award invitations will be mailed to families the week of May 12. Students receiving an award are required to attend a mandatory Awards Night rehearsal on May 29 at lunch in Room #323. Awards will not be presented to students who do not attend this mandatory rehearsal. Families and friends are encouraged to attend this very special evening of recognition. A reception provided by the North PTSA will take place immediately following the ceremony. North Theater (Dressed in cap and gown!!) 6:00 p.m. Ceremony begins North High School Amphitheatre Ladies: Dress or dressy pantsuit, dress shoes Gentlemen: Dress shirt & tie, dress pants, dress shoes (coat optional) All seniors must be dressed in cap and gown!! Baccalaureate is a dignified ceremony held in honor of all graduating seniors. The ceremony will take place in the North High School Amphitheatre. This outdoor setting will not only accommodate all participating seniors, their families and friends, but will provide a special atmosphere for picture taking and celebrating. The Class of 2015 Junior Honor Guard and Honor Usher will host a brief reception immediately following the ceremony. Friday, June 6: Senior Checkout Time: Place: 7:30 a.m. Checkout forms will be available at the Cafeteria Windows Description: Seniors must attend all classes on regular bell schedule and take their checkout form to each class and have it signed by the teacher. Attached to the checkout form will be a list of any lost books and other school related unpaid charges. If there are no charges, the form is collected by the senior’s last period teacher. If there are charges, seniors must take the checkout form and payment to the Bookkeeper’s Office at the end of the last class. PAYMENTS MUST BE CASH OR MONEY ORDER. NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED!! Seniors and families are encouraged to car pool to campus and plan to use Chicago Avenue and nearby city streets for additional parking. The Commencement Ceremony will be held in the J.W. North Stadium. The Class of 2014 will be the first class to graduate from our new stadium! Each graduate will receive 7 tickets for family and friends. Extra tickets are not available. The stadium will open at 4:00 p.m. for first come, first served seating. There will be no reserving of seats. Air horns, balloons, silly string and confetti will not be allowed into the stadium. The John W. North High School Commencement continues to be the classiest and most dignified ceremony in Riverside. Graduates and the audience can help us maintain this honored tradition by dressing and acting accordingly. Seniors are to wear the provided cap and gown with no alterations. Seniors are not to carry items such as cameras and purses during the ceremony. Hands are to be kept free!! Seniors are not allowed to wear leis, carry flowers, etc. Participation in the Commencement Ceremony is reserved for seniors who exhibit appropriate behavior!! Only those seniors meeting graduation requirements may participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Additionally, all charges and/or fines must be cleared in order to receive a diploma.
