Miss Southern West Virginia Scholarship Organization
The Purpose of the Miss Southern West Virginia Scholarship Organization (Miss SWVSO) includes:
1) Provision of Scholarship Funds.
2) Representation of Southern West Virginia and the State of West Virginia with the utmost
integrity and charm.
3) Representation of the sponsors of the Miss SWVSO in good taste.
4) Representation of the Miss SWVSO in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant.
5) Provision of opportunity for participants to improve, mature, and form new
friendships through the competition and association with others.
6) Public appearances on behalf of yourself and the Miss SWVSO in order to raise
organization awareness, scholarship, contestant numbers, and CMNH money.
WHEREAS, Miss SWVSO desires to maintain a positive influence in Southern West
Virginia and the State of West Virginia as well as Miss SWVSO sponsors, patrons and other
supporters.
WHEREAS, these relationships necessitate three important premises including:
1) A Miss SWVSO Representative is subject to rules and provisions of:
a) this Statement of Understanding,
b) the Contestant’s Contract,
c) those that may be publicized by the Miss SWVSO (collectively referred to as
“Rules”).
2) Failure by a Miss SWVSO Representative to comply with the Rules to the satisfaction
of the Miss SWVSO board during her entire year of service may lead to the forfeiture of her
title, crown, and all awards, prizes and perquisites pertaining thereof.
A MISS SWVSO REPRESENTATIVE WILL:
1) Refer all appearance requests to the Miss SWVSO Board.
2) Refer all endorsement and promotional requests to the Miss SWVSO Board.
3) Honor and fulfill all approved and scheduled appearances as directed by the Miss
SWVSO Board.
4) Promote a state-wide platform or platforms as designated by the Miss SWVSO Board.
5) Within, two weeks after being crowned, communicate with the Miss SWVSO Board
about her platform. Additionally, she and the Miss SWVSO will work to improve her
platform, platform statement, and help prepare her for public presentations
concerning her platform.
6) Properly prepare to meet the requirements of approved appearances, including
obtaining directions to appearance locations, understanding the scope of the
appearance (i.e. dress, presentation, timing, etc.) and being prompt for each and every
aspect of an appearance.
7) Prepare herself in conjunction with the guidance of the Miss SWVSO Board and others
to prepare to compete in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant.
8) Be available to ensure that all paperwork required for Miss West Virginia Scholarship
Pageant is completed in a timely and complete fashion. Said paperwork must be
approved by the Miss SWVSO Board prior to submitting for the Miss West Virginia
Scholarship Pageant.
9) Provide her own wardrobe for Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant requirements
except as such may be provided by the Miss SWVSO or the Miss West Virginia
Scholarship Organization.
10) Maintain immaculate personal grooming and behave with decorum and dignity at all
times when she is in a public setting, whether on an official public appearance or not.
a) This means that each Miss SWVSO Representative shall exhibit proper
behavior so as not to bring any negative attention on herself or the Miss
SWVSO, i.e. no smoking or drinking in public, never in the obvious company
of a male companion on appearances and limited cell phone use, gum chewing
etc.
11) Write, in a timely fashion personal thank you notes to contracting party for all
appearances, to all sponsors of the Miss SWVSO and to any others as may be requested
by the Miss SWVSO Board.
12) For the purpose of goodwill, make appearances as deemed necessary by the Miss
SWVSO Board.
13) Must make no less than six (6) appearances as a Miss SWVSO Representative.
14) Must not make any purchases towards the wardrobe for the Miss West Virginia
Scholarship Pageant without prior approval from the Miss SWVSO Board.
Miss SWVSO will:
1) Assist in the selection and provision of wardrobe for the Miss West Virginia
Scholarship Pageant and the Miss SWVSO shall be notified of wardrobe selections
before purchase and as they are made by Miss SWVSO Representative.
2) Provide scholarship money to the titleholders when said Titleholders provide
necessary documentation for the monies as deemed necessary by the Miss SWVSO at
the end of their reign.
3) Provide assistance and guidance for the preparation and presentation of Miss SWVSO
Representative’s platform and statewide platform(s).
4) Provide assistance and guidance for the preparation and presentation of Miss SWVSO
Representative’s talent.
