FROM THE PRESIDENT
Riding season should be in full swing by now and winter a thing of the past. Top Gun is the big
event for our chapter this month and it is on the 26th of April. This is a great event for the chapter
and also a money maker, remember to make this a success your help is needed. If you have the
chance to help out contact me (618-917-6243) or Missy Griggs (618-251-5463). The more helpers
we have allows everyone to have a chance to compete in the Top Gun Competition. The Freedom
Rally is on May 4th and if you intend to ride to Springfield that day you need to be at the Innkeeper
in Hamel by 9:00am as everyone will be heading out by 9:45am. Our own Vice-President Hooper
will be leading the way. We are looking into getting our Chapter logo copyrighted so it cannot be
misused by anyone. The chapter website is being updated and Mandrake will be keeping it current
for us. April 13th is the swap meet in Belleville. At it we will be selling bike raffle tickets for the
state raffle. Come out to help hawk them. We will be selling them from 10am until 12 pm. This is
also a revenue maker for the chapter as we get some of the ticket money back from each ticket we
sell. We also have two new representatives to the biker memorial they are Butch Clements and
Linda Pickerill, way to go! The next meeting is April 12th and after the meeting a ride is being
planned. It will not be too long. Let’s hope the weather holds out for the meeting. Dawn and I are
getting rid of our home phone so if you need to contact either one of us you will need to call our
cell phones. Mine is 618-917-6243 and Dawn’s is 618-406-4894. In order to make your chapter’s
meeting more fun bring your ideas to the meetings and let Missy Grigg or any officer know what
you would like to do following the meetings.
Aloha, Skinny
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Hi! I’m excited that it’s almost here! RIDING SEASON!! I’m sick of winter. I have just a few
reminders from the PR department. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. If you got placemats
and coaster at the last meeting, don’t forget to hand them out to local restaurants and bars. Help
spread the word. We all want to be seen when we ride. I will have the proclamations for your
Mayors at the next meeting. You will need to get them to their office as soon as possible. Some
will have a meeting at the end of the month and you can get them back for the May meeting. April
26th is TOP GUN. We can all use the practice, but it really helps your skills. May 4th is the
Freedom Rally in Springfield. Winter Iron Butt ends at the April meeting, so bring your bike!
You all be safe. See you on the road.
Janet
ACTIVITIES
Hey Everybody! The first thing I want to say is I'm sorry I didn't write anything last month. The
Dance was awesome, and the games were so funny. I wanted to thank everyone who showed up to
decorate (you know who you are). Hope you made the Slider G. Seminar this past weekend. Also
hope to see you at the Swap meet on the 13th of April. I was also letting everybody know the
Winter Iron Butt Contest will end at the next Monthly Meeting (April 12th). Make sure you turn in
your miles at the next meeting. I hope everybody has a Happy Easter and Drive Safe out there.
Love & Friend,
Missy(LuckyCharms)

BOD REPORT
Well, we were finally able to hold our Feb. meeting, so here we go. There was not as much stuff as I thought there
would be so this won't be too bad.
Under Old business:
The PSA grant money is no longer available. So this has been put on hold for now.
A wage increase for the state office manager was approved so she will get a $1.00 per hour raise and the office
assistant will get .75 per hour raise. For all of the work they do for this organization they deserve it.
Under New Business:
South Suburban Chapter has been using a person off the non preferred venders list in advertising in their
newsletters. This is a big no no. So as a sanction against them they must submit their newsletter to the state office
for approval before it is published.
We have a new chapter in Brown County - The Pathfinders.
All of the panels were reset including the MRF - Legs, DNR - Heavy Carr, Fed Pac –everyone retained, By Law
Review has a new chair Mike Myers. S.W. Region reps Ed Show and Rich Kinkade.
ABATE of Illinois Inc. will now have 1/2 page ads in Thunder Roads Magazine in the north half of the state and
Biking Life for the south part of the state.
Anyone who is interested can send a sealed bid to the state office for the old bike trailer. Bids must be recieved by
April 18.
At the State seminar this year both ABATE PAC and FED PAC were able to raise some money. ABATE over $
12,000 and FED over $ 8,000. So the war chests are ready to do battle this election year. Remember WE VOTE,
WE WIN.
Safety & Ed - so far 25,783 students have gone through our classes. There is talk of incorporating Iowa's Power
Point Presentation along with our video. I did not attend the safety & ed. presentation at the seminar this year where
this was introduced, but I heard it was very good. Also the posting for this year’s motorcycle training classes should
be out now. There should be around a 20 percent increase in the classes held. They are even trying to get a class for
sidecar training in progress. (More on that later.)
The state seminar next year will be Jan. 16 - 18. All rooms will be available after the August BOD meeting
The applications for this year’s ABATE motorcycle plates are out and need to be turned in quickly. We are still
trying to get year round plates done.
Freedom Rally is May 4 and the starting point will be at the Heritage House off of 6th Street
I also have tickets for the state bike raffle if anyone is interested. I have a limited number of tickets for DA BEAR
as well. These will go fast as they are only $1.00 each
I guess that about wraps it up for now.
