7th Annual Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium 2010 Industrial Symbiosis -CONTRIBUTING TO CO-BENEFIT CITIES AND REGIONSKawasaki, JAPAN, November 5-6, 2010 followed by IS Asia-Pacific/ ConAccount meetings in November 7-9, Tokyo, Japan ver.11 on 100527 The International Society for Industrial Ecology - Industrial Symbiosis/Eco-Industrial Development Section (IS/EIDC) proposes the Industrial Symbiosis and Eco-Industrial Development Symposium 2010 in Kawasaki, Japan. The symposium is the 7th Annual Industrial Symbiosis Research Symposium, inheriting abundant knowledge, networks and histories of Industrial Symbiosis Symposiums initiated by the Center for Industrial Ecology at Yale University‘s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Researchers and experts from all over the world will discuss and exchange experiences on the IS, EIDs and related topics particularly focusing on their applications on growing Asia-Pacific countries and cities and associated symbiotic co-benefits. The Symposium will be organized in cooperation among International Society for Industrial Ecology –Section on IS/EIDC-, the Center for Industrial Ecology at Yale University and institutes from three North East Asian countries, namely, Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Sciences in China, Ulsan University in Korea and National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan. The symposium will be also co-organized by the Office of Global Sustainability, Kawasaki City, Japan. Kawasaki City, known as an industrial center of Tokyo Metropolitan Region, has experienced its on-going transition toward an environmentally friendly industrial city with industrial symbiosis due to the need in urban management for reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable development and low carbon society. Kawasaki Eco-Town is also identified as one of frontier eco-towns or Japanese EIDs. The Symposium will begin on November 5th (Fri.) and end on November 6th (Sat.), 2010. It is the first of a series of events in Japan related to Industrial Ecology, followed by the ISIE Asia-Pacific meeting and MFA-ConAccount meeting from 7th (Sun) to 9th(Mon) that will be held in Tokyo.
