Purpose
This unit standard is for people who are currently working, or who intend to
work, in jobs which involve production trialling of food or related product
formulations.
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to trial new
products, and produce new products under trial conditions.

Definition
Organisational procedures refer to documents that include: worksite rules, codes,
and practices; equipment operating instructions; production specifications;
documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements.

Element 1
Prepare to trial new products.
Performance criteria
1.1
New product ingredients are available in sufficient quantity for scheduled trial.
1.2
Formula of new product is scaled to production quantities, and is available for
factory trial within agreed timeframe.
1.3
Approved production equipment for factory trial is available and fit for purpose
prior to scheduled trial.
1.4
Constraints to new products trials are identified, and solutions are implemented
to optimise performance.

Factory trial plan is available to those affected in a format and within a
timeframe that optimises performance of equipment and personnel.

Trial product quantity is representative of realistic production volumes.

Results of production trial are communicated to interested parties in agreed
format and within agreed timeframe.
2.5
Opportunities to improve product produced in production trial are identified, and
actioned within a timeframe that optimises use of equipment and personnel.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
