39° Judo International Trophy “Abramo Oldrini - Citta di
Sesto San Giovanni” & Judoboy International 2008
A record breaking number of spectators
for triumph of judoka Antonio Ciano
A great number of spectators gathers to see the Italian judoka Antonio Ciano on the highest
position at the International Judo Competition “Abramo Oldrini – Citta di Sesto San Giovanni 2008"
this 28th of November. Over five thousand spectators, including families, invaded Palasesto for the
thirty ninth edition of the Oldrini, the prestigious sports event created by the president of the Sports
Club Sesto, Ubaldo Paschini, with the collaboration of his experienced staff and the precious
support of Regione Lombardia, the president of Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia,
Regione Lombardia, the International Judo Federation, the Judo European Union, the
African Judo Federation, the Italian National Olympics Committee, the Judo Wrestling
Weights Karate, ACSI, Gazzetta dello Sport, Feder-Italia, the City of Sesto San Giovanni
and the Fogolâr Furlan Sesto San Giovanni. However, as it has been for the past forty years, the
engine of the event was in the hands of Ubaldo Paschini, honourable FIJLKAM Master and
6th Dan IJF/FIJLKAM, sponsor of the even, an event blending sport and show, an event that does
not only give well deserved value to Judo but which also enables an public of non experts to
understand it through a innovative style of refereeing and scores which are easy to interpret. One
of the many reasons for which th Oldrini has proven itself a “classic among the classics” of
Judo, where the protagonists are the beauty of the sport itself and pure competitiveness. And it
was exactly pure competitiveness one of the main components during the final fight in which we
saw the Italian Antonio Ciano and the French Axel Clerget challenging on the innovative
Trocellen tatamis. Great energy and strength were shown by both judokas in a breathtaking and
exciting fight won by Antonio Ciano (member of the Financial Police, “Fiamme Gialle”) class
1981, who took his place on the highest position succeeding the Cuban Arley Montero Gonzales,
winner of the previous edition.
The most important authorities of the City and Province (including the president of the
International Federation Judo-IJF Marius Vizer, who wanted to take part by sending a special
greeting to his friend Paschini) attended the outstanding official award of the 1 st place Antonio
Ciano, 2nd place Frenchman Axel Clerget and 3rd place Russian Sergei Kozel, with the
participation of the Sports Councilor Giovanni Urro, the president of sport Stefania Di Pietro,

Lombardia Claudio Bartelletti, the president of Proloco di Sesto San Giovanni Loris Fantini ,

all the way from Paris with the only purpose of supporting their friend Ubaldo Paschini (with whom
they share a Carnia-Verzegnis origins).

continued in the early afternoon with the contagious impetuosity of the protagonists of Judoboy
International 2008, a non competitive young manifestation of judo techniques to which 1036
minijudoka participated representing 81 Italian, French, Portuguese and Poland sports
associations, this minjudoka were ready to challenge and be challenged with enthusiasm (on the
colourful tatmi Trocellen under the strict supervision of Felice Cattaneo, Claudio Zanesco e
Massimo Gorla. In the afternoon, from 4pm on, the black belted Ju-Se judokas got back into the
scene to fight their way to the 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st places. Before the official award we could see the
so much expected Qwan Ki Do e Karate and Judoboy performances.
“It has been really exciting to see all those people cheering up their favourite judokas while they
were on the tatamis, being delighted by the wonderful organization of the tatamis, and giving our
support to the protagonists of Judoboy– declared at the closing of the event the host Ubaldo
Paschini-. “Being aware that the passion and energy given to the organization of the Oldrini are
rewarded by the affection of the spectators and public is a very gratifying joy. Now it is time to
think of something amazing and special for the fortieth edition” . An edition that is expected to be
