Keynote Speaker Henry Edgar Paston-Bedingfeld, York Herald The College of Arms is a part of the UK Royal Household and is the body the issues grants of armorial bearings, badges and flags on behalf of the Crown. It is also the official repository of the coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families and their descendants. York Herald is a Herald in Ordinary and is an officer of the College. The office of York Herald was established as early as 1385 after Edmund of Langley, created was Duke of York. The first surviving reference is from a patent of 1484 granting to John Water alias Yorke, herald, as fee of his office and for services to Richard III, his predecessors and ancestors, the manor of Bayhall in Pembury, Kent, and an income from the lordship of Huntingfield, Kent.
