Here’s how
CAN works
1. 1. In an
emergency,
the trained
emergency
official
makes one
phone call
to CAN...
2. He reaches
on-duty staff
and records a
message or
selects a prerecorded one.
Then he
picks areas or
lists to be
called.
3. Calls start
immediately at
the rate of
3000 to 5000
an hour!

A flexible and cost-effective service!
Every emergency situation is different
and notifying the right people, at the
right time, at the right place is essential.
The ability to be “flexible” to varying
needs is a major strength of Community
Alert Network.
Address Flexibility: CAN is capable of
targeting specific areas - by zip code,
zone, block, street, and street number
range.
Message Flexibility:
Different
messages can go to different locations at
the same time. The system can also send
multi-lingual messages, contact TDD
machines (hearing impaired), cellular
phones, beepers, pagers.

Officials
4. Immediately after a calling session a full
report is Faxed to the official with the results
of each call!
Names and phone numbers are stored in
CAN computers, ready for use immediately.
Geographic Zones: Residents of a
community can be selected by zip code,
street, and house number range.
One call and
a message
can reach
5,000 people
in one hour!
Do you have an unlisted phone number?
If you do, your number will not be put into
this system unless you contact your local
Emergency Management Coordinator or
fill this out and send it to your local EMC
office.
…………………………………………
Please enter my unlisted phone number
into the CAN system so that I will receive
emergency notifications. I understand
that this information will only be used by
my EMC in emergency situations and it
will remain confidential.
