Synthetic preservatives
Butylated Hydroxytolune (BHT)
BHT is carcinogenic and both cause contact dermatitis.
Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
Commonly used causes allergic reactions and rashes. Avoid use
in children. Also a neurotoxin.
Methyl, Propyl, Butyl&Ethyl Parabens
Causes allergic contact dermatitis, toxic.
Bronopol
Very toxic and a skin irritant.
Benzalkonium Chloride
Highly toxic, contains formaldehyde, causes dermatitis.
DMDM Hydantoin
Quarternium-15
Synthetic Surfactants
Toxic causes allergic reactions and rash.
Sodium lauryl sulphate
Sodium laureth sulfate
Ammonium lauryl sulfate
Ammonium laureth sulfate
TEA compounds
DEA compounds
MEA compounds
PEG compounds
All these are irritants that are known to cause dry skin and hair but
are still widely used. Some of these react with other chemicals to
form carcinogenic nitrosamines. Cocomide is banned in some
countries. Commonly found in shampoos, toothpaste and baby
products.

Sorbitan Stearate, Laureate, Palmitate, Oleate
Waxes such as Isopropyl Stearate, Laureate,
Palmitate, Oleate
Silicone
Can form in living tissues some of the strongest carcinogens
known called nitrosamines. Allergen causing eczema.
Can contain the toxic by-product dioxane.
Skin irritants.
Sorbolene
Mineral Oil
Petroleum Jelly
These three are basically industrial by products made from crude
petrol. Dangerous if ingested and should be avoided, as they are
thought of as carcinogenic. They suffocate the skin with an oil
coating that prevents the skin from breathing.
Talc
Talc has been linked to respiratory disease, ovarian cancer and
lung disease.
Lanolin
Lanolin is made from the wax coating on sheep wool – sheep are
dipped in chemicals regularly for their entire life.
Coal Tar
Coal tar is a known carcinogen and skin irritant.
