CONEWAGO VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD POLICY No. 214 Section: Pupils Title: Graduation Requirements Date Adopted: January 16, 2012 Reference Section l. Purpose: It shall be the policy of the Board to acknowledge each student's successful completion of the instructional program appropriate to the student's interests and needs by the award of a diploma or certificate at fitting graduation ceremonies. Section 2. Authority: The Board shall award a regular high school diploma to every student enrolled in this district who meets the requirements of graduation established by this Board in accordance with state regulations. §1613 §1611 There shall be only one (1) diploma awarded by this District and no distinctions shall be made between various programs or venues of instruction with the exception of a “dual diploma” for students of the District who satisfactorily complete all of the graduation requirements of the York-Adams Academy. This diploma shall state “Conewago Valley School District and the York-Adams Academy”. The York-Adams Academy will conduct a graduation ceremony for students that complete the prescribed program of studies. The requirement for graduation shall be the completion of work and studies representing the instructional program assigned to grades nine through twelve, which shall be aligned with established state academic standards. The Board requires that each candidate for graduation shall have earned twenty-seven credits (27) of approved course work. Effective with the graduating class of 2013 each candidate for graduation shall have earned twenty-eight (28) credits of approved coursework. Specific course requirements for graduation are defined in the New Oxford High School Course Selection Guide. Each year the Superintendent or designee will review and approve the New Oxford High School Course Selection Guide prior to its release for student and parent use. Section 3. Delegation of Responsibility: The Superintendent or his/her designee shall develop procedures for implementing this policy which include: A. B. C. D. E. F. the careful recording of each student's progress and accumulation of graduation requirements. counseling of students to know what is expected of them for completion of their schooling. issuance of periodic warnings to students in danger of not fulfilling graduation requirements. preparation of a list of all graduating students for the information of the Board and release to the public. preparation of suitable diplomas for graduating students planning and execution of graduation ceremonies which fittingly mark this important achievement. §1613, 1611 School Code
