2006-2007 PHYSICAL EDUCATION K-12 (BS) Methods of Assessment and Criteria for Success Intended Program Outcomes 1. Graduates will demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication skills by synthesizing and summarizing health, physical activity and sports information disseminated to students. Direct Measures Establish positive interaction in the learning environment that uses incentives and consequences for students to promote excellence in health and activity participation Establish positive interactions between teacher and student in all areas of instruction Communicate (verbal & nonverbal) participation procedures effectively with all students, including those with disabilities and those of varying cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Communicate with colleagues, school and community specialists, administrators, and families consistently and appropriately regarding health and physical activity issues. 90% of students will receive a passing score on the Pre Admission to Teacher Education Oral Interview and written Essay All students will receive a rating of at least 3 out of 4 on the communication artifacts of the E-Portfolio. 90% of students will receive a mean score of 70% or greater on assignments related to communication in PET 3463; PET 2320; PET 4401; PET 4640; PET 4946; PEN 2101; DAA 3301 and HSC 1100 based on established rubric. Indirect Measures 90 % of students responding to exit interview conducted by Office of Student Teaching, will indicate that they are satisfied with the curriculum and their ability to communicate with children kindergarten through twelfth grade, their families, and other stakeholders. 85% of responses on the communication skills preparedness question on the Employers’ Satisfaction Survey will be favorable toward student graduates. 90% of students will receive positive comments on the Directing Teacher Candidate Summative Evaluation Form regarding their ability to communicate. 90% of students will receive satisfactory rating on the Communications component of the Field Experience Supervisor’s Form. Graduating students will demonstrate effective communication skills during interaction and interview meetings at the Career Fair with perspective employers. 2. Graduates will have an understanding of the subjects they teach and be able to apply subject-specific theories, paradigms, concepts, practices, and principles of health and physical activity to authentic instructional settings. Communicate accurate knowledge of health and physical activity subject matter in a comprehensible manner using language and style appropriate to the learner. Use subject matter knowledge in health and physical activity to interrelate topics from a variety of perspectives, interests, and points of view. Demonstrate a breadth of subject matter that enables graduates to collaborate with colleagues from other subject fields in the integration of instruction. Use references, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the growth and developmental stage of the learner. 3. Graduates will demonstrate appropriate use of strategies and techniques related to comprehending, synthesizing, summarizing, analyzing, and evaluating the thinking capabilities of students relative to health and physical activity. 90% of students responding to exit interview conducted by Office of Student Teaching, will indicate that they are satisfied with the curriculum and their knowledge of subject content. 80% of responses from the knowledge of subject content preparedness question on the Employers’ Satisfaction Survey will be favorable. 90% of students will receive positive comments on the Directing Teacher Candidate Summative Evaluation Form regarding their knowledge of subject content. 90% of students will receive satisfactory rating on the Subject Area component of the Field Experience Supervisor’s Form All students will receive a rating of 3 out of 4 on the Subject Area Section of the EPortfolio. 90% of students will receive a 70% or higher on midterm and final exams in PET 3463; PET 2320; PET 4401; PET 4640; PET 4946; PEN 2101; DAA 3301 and HSC 1100 based on established rubric (See Appendix A) 90% of students will pass the FTCE Subject Area Examination prior to graduation Analyze student performance to identify associated higher-order thinking skills, and design learning strategies to evoke higherorder skills. Choose varied teaching strategies, materials, and technologies to expand students’ thinking abilities. Assist students in selecting projects and assignments that involve the need to gather information and solve problems. Graduates will demonstrate scholarship competency (memberships and affiliations, research, publication, resume writing, interviewing, presentations, workshops, seminars, etc.) by engaging in scholarly and creative activities and becoming professionally affiliated with physical education and related professions. Graduates will demonstrate competency in providing service (local, state, regional, national, international) by working collaboratively with various stakeholders in designing, planning, conducting, and reporting activities related to health, fitness, and physical education related issues. 90% of students completing an internship will engage in an interview at the fall Teacher’s Recruitment Fair 1 or more students will seek election or appointment to FAHPERDS Board and/or other professional boards 10 or more students will attend the FAHPERDS Conference in October 2006 1 or more students will engage in presentations at the state level Students will engage in at least 1 simulated interview during the fall student teaching experience?
