The Bachelor of Arts in Japanese consists of 30 units of upper-division Japanese coursework, plus the required
3-units upper-division English writing course, Modern Language (MLNG) 301. Prior to undertaking upperdivision work, the Japanese major will have completed a series of lower-division courses or their equivalents.

If Japanese is frequently used at home and you’re comfortable speaking it, but have difficulties when reading or

with some of the more elaborate forms of language, please see an adviser in the major to determine placement.
If you studied (secondary education) in a Japanese speaking country and have good writing skills in Japanese,
