SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 686
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
recognizing Coach Bob Schneider of West Texas A&M University
on his selection as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II National
Coach of the Year and on his recent induction into the Texas
High School Basketball Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Bob Schneider was named head coach of the
Lady Buff program in 1981, and he has since directed his teams
to nine National Collegiate Athletic Association postseason bids,
including one national runner-up finish in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Coach Schneider's 1996-1997 Lady Buff team reached
the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Women's
Elite Eight and finished with a 29-2 record; he has led West Texas
A&M University to a 393-87 mark as head coach over 16 seasons; and
WHEREAS, During his 34-year career, Bob Schneider has
logged a victory record of 854-213, including stints at Texas high
schools, Texas Woman's University, and West Texas A&M University;
Coach Schneider was one of six National Coaches of the Year
selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association; and
WHEREAS, In his high school coaching career, Coach Schneider
logged a 411-92 record and won five Texas state basketball titles
while guiding the Canyon Lady Eagles to 10 state finals games; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who is respected by his
students and colleagues, Coach Schneider was honored at the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association banquet on March 26, 1997,
and will be officially inducted into the Texas High School
Basketball Hall of Fame on May 3, 1997; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
75th Legislature, hereby commend Coach Bob Schneider on his
outstanding career and extend to him congratulations on earning
these two honors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Coach Schneider as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
