Debunking the Doctrines of Men #1 Generational Curses! Introduction: The purpose of this teaching series is to give sound biblical evidence that helps clarify popular errors that circulate widely within the body of Christ. Jesus Himself addressed the problem of the “doctrines of men” within believers of His day and found it necessary to draw a distinction and set a clear line of truth. With a heart for truth and by looking to no “private interpretation” we want to see the church return to the “simplicity that is in Jesus” on these matters. 1. There are just two things that hinder the powerful Word of God from bearing fruit and having it’s promised and powerful affect in our lives! They are: 1) unbelief and 2) the traditions of men! Mark 7:6-8,13 He answered and said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men — 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do." 2. A present day belief among many in the church is that generational curses are handed down from past generations and greatly influence the choices for sin through familial spirits assigned to lives due to the past unrepented sins of our forefathers. It is believed that strong patterns of demonic compulsion often lurk in us as Christians requiring specialized ministry by prophetic discernment technicians with mystical giftings that can identify past generational sins, often along with the names of the spirits gaining advantage, in order to break the curses and bring true freedom. Exodus 20:5-6 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Numbers 14:18 'The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.' Deuteronomy 5:9-10 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. 3. These passages are clearly associated with the Old Covenant and are even found in connection with the giving of the ten commandments. However, promises are made through the prophets that this aspect of the passing on of iniquities through generations would end in passages that are associated with the New Covenant. Jeremiah 31:29-30 In those days they shall say no more: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.' 30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. Ezekiel 18:2-4 "What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'? 3 "As I live," says the Lord God, "you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. 4 "Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die. 4. With the arrival of the New Covenant and the release of the New Creation in Christ, we are clearly a new kind of species having old things passed away and all things having become new! 2 Corinthians 5:16-18 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation… 5. Because it is true that “out of the heart comes forth the issues of life,’ and therefore we are to “guard your heart with all diligence,’ we must set no false standards restricting the free flow of the provision of what God has so richly purchased for us in Christ! We must have our mind renewed to the word of God and chose life! Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. KJV Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
