UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY
CLINICAL RESEARCH COMMITTEE (CRC)
CRC Outcomes Paradigm
1. The CRC approves an outcomes measure to be collected, ideally at TRIA, University
Orthopedics, and Regions.
2. The CRC sets an initial target along with the Faculty leader for the project.
3. The data is collected and analyzed.
4. The data is summarized and reported to a lower-tier publication. This, in general, should
involve a medical student in the process.
5. The data forms a framework for a grant application for a controlled trial or a comparative
cohort study surrounding a change in treatment, either surgical or rehabilitative.
6. The grant, funded through OREF or a sub-specialty society, is then used to develop a multicenter trial to answer a clinical question definitively.
