Ocean Beach School District No. 101 - Ilwaco High School Community Scholarships PARTIAL LISTING – The following is a partial listing of the scholarship available. Completing the application makes you eligible for any scholarship group that requests information from Ms. Huntley. American Association of University Women Awarded to a graduating Ilwaco High School female senior. Preference given to a girl who plans to pursue a career in a mathematics, science, or technology career. Alexander & Anna Cody Memorial Scholarship This award is based on financial need, GPA and SAT scores. The scholarship will be given at the beginning of the student’s second year of college. Applications are sent to the Ocean Beach Education Foundation where the selection is made. Dennis Company Family Scholarship Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School who has lived in the Ocean Beach School District for two years, namely their junior and senior years. Payment is made to the student when the student enrolls for their sophomore year in a college, university or vocational school. High school committee selects recipient. Harrell Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School who has shown exceptional character and has high need. Ilwaco/Long Beach Kiwanis Awarded to a graduating Ilwaco High School student who plans to major in business administration or a related business area. Award will be made at the beginning of the student's second year of college. Josephine Markham Millam Awarded to a graduating Ilwaco High School senior who has the desire for higher education, ability to do college level work, and financial need. Preference given to a student pursuing a teaching career. The Markham family requests that special consideration be given to a student who may need extra encouragement to continue on with higher education. Ilwaco Sports Boosters Awarded to students who have participated in athletics at Ilwaco High School. Inez Kertson Scholarship This award is given by Inez Kertson's family in her memory. Mrs. Kertson was a long-time peninsula resident employed by Telephone Utilities. She was very involved in volunteer community work. The emphasis for the recipient of the scholarship is community service (Community service should be defined as things which are done, for which a student receives no pay or school credit). Applications are sent to the Seattle Foundation where the selection is made. Luke Jensen Memorial Scholarship For a student pursuing a natural resources or science-based career, especially careers in aquaculture or fisheries science. Margaret Myers Students who apply for this scholarship must plan on a four-year degree program. Applicants must have lived in the district with parents or legal guardian and attended Ilwaco High School in junior and senior years or sophomore and senior years in special cases. Marie Hamilton Trust 1 Ocean Beach School District No. 101 - Ilwaco High School Awarded to an unspecified number of students each year based on academic performance, citizenship, chance for success in college, financial need, and general worthiness. Must attend accredited college or vocational program in the fall following graduation. Must have lived in the Ocean Beach School District with parents or legal guardians and attended Ilwaco High School in junior and senior years or sophomore and senior year in special cases. Mary Lou Mandel Memorial Scholarship This award is given in memory of Mary Lou, a long-time Long Beach business woman. Nursing students will receive 1 st priority. Applications are sent to the Ocean Beach Education Foundation where the selection is made. Max K. Evans Memorial Scholarship The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School. The award shall be split equally between the freshman and sophomore years and must be used in the two years following graduation from Ilwaco High School. Exceptions can be made for payment of two consecutive terms at a one-year trade program. Special consideration for the scholarship shall be given to students of good character, with financial need, and an interest in athletics. Pacific County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies Association Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. Preference given to students in the field of study of law enforcement or emergency services (GPA not necessarily required of preferred students.) Applicants do not have to be a son or daughter of law enforcement personnel, but preference is given to those students. Money awarded at the beginning of the second quarter of study and must be used within 2 years of high school. Winner determined by the Pacific County Reserve Deputies Association. Peninsula Arts Association This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown an interest and ability in visual arts. Applicants will be interviewed by the Peninsula Arts Association scholarship committee. A portfolio of student work is to be shown at this interview. It is required that the student have one of their letters of recommendation from their art teacher. Peninsula Moose Lodge 2362 Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School planning to attend a two or four year college. Money to be used for books and tuition. Award based on financial need, GPA and SAT scores. Need not be a member of the Moose Lodge for consideration. Applications are sent to the Peninsula Moose Lodge where the selection is made. Peninsula Moose Lodge Women of the Moose Scholarship Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School planning to attend a two or four year college. Money to be used for books and tuition. Award based on financial need, GPA and SAT scores. Need not be a member of the Moose Lodge for consideration. Applications are sent to the Women of the Moose where the selection is made. Rotary Club Scholarship Awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School for the freshman year of college. Students must write a 500-750 word essay addressing the Rotary Four-Way Test in order to be considered for this scholarship. Essay information is available from Ms. Huntley. Sidney R. Snyder Scholarship (formerly Bank of the Pacific) The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior from Ilwaco High School. The scholarship will be payable to the college or university upon enrollment for sophomore, junior and senior years. The scholarship is for the sophomore, junior, and senior years. The scholarship is to be used within five years of high school graduation. Applications are sent to the Bank of the Pacific where the selection is made. And frequently many, many more! 2
