Irish Museum of Modern Art Assistant Curator : Education & Community Reports to the Senior Curator: Education and Community Purpose of Post To co-ordinate talks, lectures, symposia and associated events as well as administrative and programming support for the work of the Education and Community Department within the context of the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s (IMMA) overall objectives as Ireland’s leading national cultural institution for the collection and presentation of modern and contemporary art. Main Duties Co-ordinating talks, lectures and symposia in association with all programming departments. Research, development and evaluation of talks, lectures, seminars and related events which engage the public. Co-ordinating travel, accommodation and technical support for visiting and resident artists, visiting curators and other speakers with regard to the Talks and Lectures programme. Liaison with other staff, in the Education & Community department and the wider museum, where relevant, about such visits. Supervision of technical crews (both internal and external) on installations along with other curators where relevant. Coordination and liaison with external specialists in the provision of services relating to the Talks and Lectures programme. Creating access opportunities for new audiences for IMMA through the Education and Community department and in particular, through the Talks and Lectures programme. Maintaining administrative systems (including databases) for programmes of work including projects with other departments, and when relevant, external partners. Sept 07 Organising and scheduling mailings of preview cards, publications and printed material. Initiation and supervision of documentation of all public talks and live events and related projects. Archiving and disseminating all documentation related to the programme. Providing day to day administrative support for the Department including filing, diary and time keeping, enquiries by post, e-mail and voice mail and control of materials related to the programme. Curating projects for the Process Room, Reading Areas and general exhibition areas from time to time. Programming the schedule for IMMA’s Lecture Room for internal and external usage. Establishing and maintaining working relationships with other Departments of the Museum in general and Assistant Curators in particular. Establishing and maintaining working relationships with external partners of the Museum. Writing and assisting in the preparation of publications and printed material including proof - reading texts. The post holder must be informed about general education, arts, and cultural policy and practice on a national level. Have demonstrated in previous professional practice a commitment to broaden audiences for art. Be able to prepare information on a range of artists, exhibitions and projects for the general public. Have computer skills. Have good interpersonal skills. Work well in a team but also be able to work on his/her own initiative. Be able to work equally with artists and other practitioners and with a wide cross section of people in society. Sept 07 Be capable of representing the department internally and externally. The Assistant Curator : Education and Community may not publish material or engage in outside activity which may impinge on the work or the standing of the Museum without the permission of the Director. The Assistant Curator will represent the department from time to time as requested.
