Lady Knight Volleyball Team Guidelines/Rules 2006 Expectation Outline for Athletes/Parents Season Expectations Play at a high competitive level Improve volleyball skills daily, weekly, and monthly Success in State Tournament/Post Season Play Academic Eligibility The Kaneland Volleyball program will strictly follow the academic policy for co-curricular activities as set forth by the Board of Education of Kaneland CUSD #302. Training Rules Any player caught violating the Kaneland Athletic Behavior Code will be punished in accordance with the school policy. There will be set curfews on nights before matches and tournaments. Those found breaking the curfew will be subject to reprimands as deemed appropriate by the coaching staff. To perform at the highest level, we need to keep sensible hours. School Attendance Unexcused absences from school will be considered unexcused missed practices. A student-athlete must be in school for 2 full blocks to practice or participate in a contest. If a student-athlete misses school all day Friday, she will not be allowed to play in the first match in a Saturday/Monday contest. The coaching staff reserves the right to determine exceptions to this rule; doctor’s appts., deaths in the family, college visits, etc. Practice/Match Attendance Attend all individual and team meetings as necessary Attend and assist in games (pre-contest prep, stats, videotape) Attend all practices Attend Awards Night Practice is scheduled to start according to what that coach decides for his or her level. Typically, practices run from 2:45 to 5pm. Some varsity practices will run from 2:45pm to 5:15 or from 5 to 7pm. Coaching staff will have the final decision on any missed practices. We understand that there may be an unexpected reason to miss practice or a match; in order to be successful, everyone must be in attendance. Because attendance is critical for the success of the entire team, athletes will not be allowed to leave practice early. If a student-athlete leaves school for any reason, they must leave a legibly written note with the athletic office before leaving school. If you can contact your own coach as well would be greatly appreciated. See Contact Info. Under no circumstances should the coaching staff hear from another student the reasons for leaving school for the day. If injured, you will be expected to attend practice, travel with the team, sit with the team, and help in any way possible. If the injury would be better served be sending you home, we will. All injuries are to be reported to the trainer and coaching staff. If a player misses the bus to an away contest, she will not be able to participate in the match or tournament. A parent or guardian transporting the athlete does not constitute an exception to this rule. This is a matter of liability and will not be taken lightly. Penalties for unexcused, missed, or tardy practices First offense – Coach on One Second offense – one (1) match suspension Third offense – dismissal from team Penalties for unexcused, missed, or tardy to matches/tournaments First offense – Coach on One Second offense – dismissal from team August 2006 Practice and Match Conduct Each player is required to wear practice shirts, shorts/spandex, volleyball shoes and kneepads. Be on time for practice; this means being 5 minutes early! If a student-athlete must be late due to special help from a teacher, be sure that the coaching staff knows before practice time. Special assignments/group projects do not fall in this category! No jewelry, gum, or candy is allowed during practices and matches. Take care of all equipment and uniforms; treat it like it is your own! Parent Expectations Support ALL athletes and coaches Assist with a variety of team functions Stay involved with your athlete’s school and athletic performance Display a positive attitude at matches Always communicate to coaching staff at any time General Rules Communication High communication throughout the season between: Head Coach-athlete Captain-athlete Trainer-athlete Assistant coach-athlete Athlete-athlete Self-Management Maintain a successful and healthy lifestyle by: Managing health Managing time Managing studies Managing stress Sportsmanship Appropriate language Appropriate gestures and body language Appropriate interactions (teammates, opponents, officials, fans, everyone) Effort 100% - Physically, Mentally, Emotionally All Players are expected to participate in team fundraisers, as well as help at all home tournaments. All players are required to ride the team bus to and from all matches. The only exception to this rule is when an athlete provides a hand-written note from their parent/guardian. The athlete must then be signed out by the adult responsible for transportation on the roster transportation sheet. Any athlete leaving without being properly signed out will be subject to disciplinary action deemed appropriate by the coaching staff. Athletes are required to help out and shag for one another before matches. The goal of interscholastic sports is to assist in the development of better American citizens, not just superior athletes. Please keep in mind that no player is allowed to “cut down”, discourage, or disrespect another player, coach, or official. This pertains not only to Kaneland athletes and coaches, but those from other schools as well. Although this behavior may be accepted or condoned at other schools, Kaneland has always prided itself in the class of its athletes. Such conduct will not be tolerated. This is a volleyball program that consists of 4 levels. All players are expected to show their support for the program by staying to watch any matches in progress before and/or after. For all contests, all levels are required to sit together in the bleachers and NO boys will be allowed to sit with the teams. If a student-athlete or parent has a concern or problem, please contact the coaches. Most importantly, please remember that we are all human and we all make mistakes. Go Lady Knights!!! August 2006
