If funds are withdrawn by the source or should the student fail to remain in good academic standing, this contract may be canceled by the University without prior notice. The above-mentioned student is not entitled to the rights and privileges of regular state employees during the period of this contract. Stipend and tuition waivers will be prorated upon the official beginning and ending contract dates in the event of a termination or replacement of a graduate assistant during the summer, fall, and spring semesters. A Graduate Assistant may be dismissed at any time by the department chair, academic dean, and/or appropriate administrator for non-performance of assigned duties. 3. GENERAL Student must be enrolled as a degree-seeking graduate student at the time his/him contract begins. Student need not be enrolled as a full-time student. Students hired as graduate assistants are eligible Graduate Merit Scholarships and may apply for other types of financial aid as well. 4. Graduate assistants may work no more than 20 hours per week as a graduate assistant. They are permitted to hold other positions in the University as long as the total number of hours worked per week does not exceed 40. 5. Graduate assistants may not be involved in unsupervised teaching situations. 6. If a graduate assistant resigns before the end of a contract period, the assistant must send a letter of resignation to his/her supervisor and to the Provost Office. If the assistant has an academic appointment, a copy of this letter should be sent to either Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts or Associate Dean of the Merrick School of Business. 7. Graduate assistants in general should spend no more than thirty percent of their time doing clerical assignments. The remaining seventy percent should be spend assisting faculty and staff in research or in duties related to their professional development. 8. When no classes are in session but the University is open - semester break and spring vacation - graduate assistants may be required to report for work. 9. A graduate assistant's contract may be unilaterally canceled at any time by the assistant's supervisor or the University. 10. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 has made it mandatory for all employees hired after November 6, 1986, to submit proof of their identity and their authorization to work in the United States. Graduate assistants will be required to present the appropriate documents for verification within three working days of the first day of work. *Foreign students are restricted by their Visa to 20 hours per week. II. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. STIPEND & TUITION Graduate assistants are paid a flat rate evenly spaced over the number of two-week pay periods that fall between dates of employment. It is the responsibility of the graduate assistant to submit a byIweekly time sheet via the web.. Paychecks will not be released unless web time sheets are submitted and authorized. To receive your paycheck, see the Business Office cashier in Charles Hall Room 127 between Wednesday noon and Friday noon of each pay week. Paychecks not picked up during that time will be mailed to the home address of the graduate assistant or returned to the State, as appropriate. Graduate tuition waivers may be subject to Federal and State taxes, which will be assessed against your stipend each semester. Graduate assistants who do not use all of their tuition waivers in a given semester or summer session may not transfer the unused credits to another semester or summer session. Graduate assistants who are enrolled in the Law School or in the M.S. in Taxation program have a special tuition waiver policy. This policy is as follows: a. The maximum number of credit hours as stated in the contract will still apply. b. The total dollar amount of the waiver will never exceed the total tuition amount for 12 graduate hours tuition of the school or college in which the assistantship is held. c. The waiver will first be applied to SB or CLA graduate tuition, if applicable; and then, if this waiver is for less than the awarded credits, the balance of the available waiver will be applied toward Law or Taxation tuition hours. The amount of the waiver, however, will not be Law or Taxation per-credit-hour charges, but will be the graduate per-credit-hour rate.
