HIGHEST PERFORMANCE, CERTIFIED RESULTS TurtleSkin gloves offer the highest performance against punctures, cuts & abrasion while remaining lightweight, flexible and comfortable. Please Reveiw our testing data to learn how TurtleSkin compares to other types of glove material. Search Glove Areas of Protection Areas in black designate TurtleSkin Protective materials, which are intended to offer increased levels of protection from cut, puncture and abrasion compared to ordinary leather or traditional cut resistant liners. All other areas shown as white indicate leather coverage, which provides little or no protection. It is important to note these areas and recognize them on your gloves. Always be sure that a layer of TurtleSkin is between you and hazardous objects. That’s why these TurtleSkin Search Gloves were developed with the input of officers from around the country. While no working glove is cut or puncture proof, through continuous improvements and feedback, we strive to provide new levels of hand protection to areas at risk during patdowns and searches. TurtleSkin Search Gloves offer new levels of protection without encumbering your ability to perform your duties. Patented, 100 times more puncture resistant and 5 times more cut resistant than other Aramid gloves. For high risk searches and handling of medical waste. Drug Units and Task Force Members Hospitals: Security and Police. Staff handling medical waste and sharps containers. Patrol officers who encounter needles or work high risk areas. Handling of any loose needle. TurtleSkin gloves offer the highest performance against punctures, cuts and abrasion while remaining lightweight and comfortable. Its patented fabric is constructed of the tightest weave ever achieved in Kevlar® fiber from Dupont, giving it protective properties that far exceed typical aramid gloves. It is the only flexible material that helps protect hands from needle-sticks, metal shards and glass fragments, while remaining only as thick as three sheets of paper. TurtleSkin gloves can be machine washed, unlike many other gloves which must be discarded when they become dirty or come into contact with infectious waste or bodily fluids. While no glove is puncture proof, Turtleskin's patented fabric has the tightest weave ever achieved in Kevlar® offering the best protection yet against needles. TurtleSkin offers the highest puncture resistance ever achieved in a lightweight, flexible fabric. These gloves can resist the puncture of a .05 inch needle under several pounds of pressure, giving you more reaction time to pull away from sharp objects. To evaluate puncture resistance, the Series IX Automated Materials Testing System made by Instron per the modified standard EN344. This measures the pounds of force it takes a .05 inch solid steel needle to puncture a material by .03 inches, traveling at a constant, rate of .395 inch per minute. With the variety of penetrators and hypodermic needles, no single test can determine puncture performance. Cut Protection Although no glove is ever truly cut-proof, TurtleSkin’s outstanding cut resistance far surpasses any other lightweight, flexible material on the market. The American Society for Testing and Materials has collaborated with the industry to develop the Cut Protection Performance (CPP) Test, ASTM F-1790-97 using a razor blade to cut through a fabric while sliding a distance of one inch. The average force it takes to sever the material is its CPP. As you can see in the chart above based on equal thickness, TurtleSkin offers nearly 5 times the cut resistance of standard aramid lined gloves and over 25 times that of cowhide leather gloves. Measuring only .017 of an inch thick, only TurtleSkin offers the cut performance and dexterity needed in critical situations. Abrasion Resistance Wear-life is one of the key components customers weigh as they judge the quality of a glove. According to the ASTMD3884 method, TurtleSkin gloves will resist abrasion 11 times longer than cowhide and over 40 times longer than aramid knit of equal thickness. The American Society for Testing and Materials measures abrasion on a Taber machine by the number of cycles an abrasive wheel makes until it has worn through the material. TurtleSkin’s ability to excel at this rigorous test means it can hold up to some of the harshest environments. And it is the only flexible glove material that also provides superior performance in cut and puncture with a comfortable fit. Note: These are "body armor" for your hands for needle stick protection. Much like body armor, these gloves require a 16 to 20 hour "break in" to be best used. This is best performed off duty in a low stress environment. They are very stiff when new due to the extensive protection offered. Like your vest or a good leather jacket, they do soften and become more flexible with use. A simple example of how they will feel is if you slip a credit card in your front pocket with the numbers facing out, during a pat search you try to feel the numbers on the credit card. You can't tell what the numbers are, but we have yet to encounter an officer that can not feel the numbers through the pants.
