Owned principal responsibility for the planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting for a statewide evaluation of the NSF-funded Math and Science Partnerships in Hawaii. Trained and assisted WA teacher leaders on STAR Learning Walks and how to promote productive conversation among colleagues about teaching improvement. Post-Doctoral Research Associate, University of Washington, College of Education 2002 - 2007 Assisted with liaison activity related to the policy environment for teacher leadership in the state of Washington (e.g., OSPI, PESB, WEA, and IHEs). Developed online courses and performance-based outcomes for the programs. The Center for Educational Leadership Synthesized qualitative data collected in a four-year study on K-12 professional learning models. Led the writing of five major written products, ranging from research briefs for practitioner and policymaker audiences to articles in teacher magazines. Research Assistant, University of Washington, College of Education Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Seattle, WA The Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy (2005-2007) Worked in partnership with nationally-known experts in educational leadership and reform. Synthesized literature into comprehensive “state of the field” reports. Systematically followed up with local teachers, principals, superintendents, and state-level educators to ensure we captured their work accurately. The Center for Educational Leadership (2005-2007) Established and maintained ongoing working relationships with educators in the Highline School District. Conducted regular interviews with teachers, building leaders and district personnel on their new professional development model. Observed professional development activities, ranging from seminars to one-on-one instructional coaching. Analyzed data with the research team and prepared interim reports. The Small Schools Project (2004) Collected qualitative data weekly (via structured observations and interviews) on school reform processes in purposefully small high schools. Discussed and analyzed emerging trends as a research team. Provided the schools and the funding source with literature-informed reports on the reform work in progress. The Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession (2003-2004) 2 Curriculum Vitae June, 2015 1998-2001 The Implementation of I-728, Research Assistant (2002-2003) Compiled and analyzed data for an OSPI-sponsored study on the use of I-728 funds in 2001-02. Arranged and conducted interviews with district staff at case study sites. Composed case study reports based on data collected from site visits. The Wellington School, Columbus, OH 1997-1998 Developed a set of four “Fast Response” online surveys for Washington state teachers. Assisted with statistical analyses of large datasets. Conducted ongoing data analysis and categorized quantitative and qualitative data on statewide conditions of teaching. Prepared written reports and literature reviews for practitioners, scholars, and legislators. Worked collaboratively as a member of the research team. Middle School French and Social Studies Teacher Led all students to top twentieth percentile in National French Exam. Developed and directed the monthly SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) professional development seminars for faculty, staff and administration. Coordinated the Back-to-Back French Exchange for the fifth and sixth grades. Created the school’s first student-centered website for further enrichment in French studies. United States Peace Corps, Niang M’Boul, Mauritania, West Africa Volunteer Lived and worked with recently returned Hal Pulaar refugees. Assisted and advised local farmers and several women’s cooperatives on new techniques of constructing tree nurseries in their native languages, Pulaar and French. Authored grant proposals, in English and French, to the United Nations, US Government, and stateside non-profit organizations to request funds for the agricultural reconstruction of the village.
