Science Ch 4 Plate Tectonics Study Guide Test Date: Friday, December 16th Vocabulary Terms: Convection currentsConduction currentsRadiationAsthenosphereSliding boundaryRift valleyColliding boundarySubduction Sea-floor spreadingContinental drift- Key Skills (Students should be able to): Label the Earth’s layers on a diagram. Locate the asthenosphere on a diagram. Identify Describe which kind of plate boundary occurs when the sea-floor spreads. Key Concepts: Convection currents occur in the mantel and outer core. Mi-ocean ridges occur at spreading boundaries. In sea-floor spreading, the sea floor spreads apart along both sides of a mid-ocean ridge as a new crust is added. Convection currents move through the mantle. Pressure increases inside Earth from the crust to the core. The continental crust is made mostly of granite rock. The oceanic crust is made mostly of basalt.
