JOB DESCRIPTION
PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSISTANT
Reports to: Physiotherapist
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
1. To support students with physical disabilities with their learning and
development under the direction of a qualified physiotherapist, including
carrying out therapy programmes, Aquatic Therapy, walking programmes,
standing programmes and as directed by the physiotherapist.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support with the on-going physiotherapy provision for students with a variety
of needs in a variety of settings.
2. Manage a personal timetable, undertaking unaccompanied sessions, working
independently, acting as key liaison person when the physiotherapist is
unavailable.
3. Support the running of the Aquatic Therapy pool, including supporting
students with getting changed for their Aquatic Therapy sessions.
4. Promote a professional image and raise the profile of the Physiotherapy
Department and the NSC, including the wider community
5. Assess environment and atmosphere in which a session is planned to be
delivered and adjust in order to maximise student experience, engagement
and safety.
6. Assess student’s current condition (within scope of the role) as to whether the
delegated programme is appropriate to be delivered on this occasion.
7. Liaise with students, other health care professionals, residential teams and
education staff regarding treatment and management issues for the care of
the students.
8. Use therapy aids / tools/ equipment competently to deliver delegated
programmes.
9. Undertaking clerical related duties, including use of the PC. Use PhysioTools
programmes, writing exercise programmes for students, to be subsequently
implemented after confirming appropriateness with Physiotherapist.
10. Maintain individual case notes and electronic records of work undertaken.
11. Participate in service planning, support and development where objectives for
training and support will be identified.

12. Attend College and department meetings as required and provide feedback to
colleagues. Participate in agreed training sessions, which may include inhouse or external bodies, attending all mandatory training sessions
13. Through personal example and action demonstrate commitment to equality
and diversity ensuring equality of access in service delivery.
14. Adhere to College Policies in relation to the submission of expenses, Special
leave of absence etc.
15. Work in accordance with the College’s Policies and Procedures in relation to
Health and Safety at Work, Confidentiality, Infection Control, POVA etc.

16. To undertake such other duties as may from time to time be determined by
the Senior Physiotherapist, Head of Learning Programmes and/or Director of
Learning Programme.
DEVELOPMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To contribute to the development of new initiatives within the field of Further
Education of students with physical disabilities.
