YOUR BEING WELL IS OUR CONCERN! NINE SPRINGS NATURAL HEALTH CENTRE MAY 2013 Everyone at Nine Springs wishes you a warm Summer (optimistically!) Well one thing about this Spring is that it sure is making us appreciate every moment of it like never before - there's nothing like delayed gratification! As I write, we still have the last of the daffodils and the tulips, but no doubt summer will be hard on Spring's heels and it will be roses, delphiniums and lavender in no time. We would like to introduce you to Kerrie Ballantyne our new Manager, who will now be producing this newsletter to keep you up to-date with events at Nine Springs. Please bear with us while she finds her feet. We also have a new Receptionist, Nicky, who is helping out in times of need. On 19 April, we held our annual Staff Development Day. This gives us all an opportunity to learn more about each other's work, to enhance our ability to work together as a team, which we value highly here, and thus be able to offer you a high quality service. There are often several ways to treat a particular problem, so it is important that we each find the particular therapy and practitioner who is right for our individual needs, to help us to find our path to resolving our health issues. Whilst we are all specialists in our own field, it is also important for us to know what all the options for each patient/client are. If you're wondering which therapy/therapist is right for you, please do not hesitate to ask for help. The receptionists will be happy to arrange for you to meet with someone to ask for their advice. Jane Robinson, Partner Over the Hill? As a McTimoney Chiropractor, I see all kinds of people of various ages. One phrase I seem to hear with disturbing frequency is “it’s to be expected at my age” and this from people as young as 40. Excuse me while I climb onto my soapbox but I feel passionately about this. You are not over the hill at 40 or 50, 60, 70 for that matter. No one should expect to be in pain and discomfort. Aches and pains are not inevitable and there is something you can do about it. NINE SPRINGS GIFT VOUCHERS - THE PERFECT PRESENT A gift of health! Lovely to receive, a voucher can be used towards any therapy on offer at Nine Springs Prevention is better than cure. We all know that there are things we can do to prevent problems in the future. But there are many smaller things, such as the way we sit or repetitive actions of daily life that can cause sometimes severe discomfort and yet are easy to rectify when the cause is identified. Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. Aching joints are an indication that something is wrong. The right postural advice, exercises and physical manipulation can have a profound effect on these ailments, reducing symptoms significantly and preventing deterioration. For example; recently, a patient came to my clinic and told me she had arthritis of the knee joints. She was in her early 50’s and had been experiencing pain in the knees for around seven years. She had seen her GP who diagnosed arthritis and called it normal wear and tear for someone of her age. He told her there was nothing to be done and sent her on her way. On examination, I saw that she tended to lean forwards when standing and walking. When I pointed this out and corrected her posture, she noticed an immediate improvement in her knees, as the weight of her body was no longer putting stress on her knee joint. I realigned her pelvis to further improve her posture and when I saw her the following week she reported a complete reduction in knee pain.
