Somali: Language and Culture
French: Vive la Francophonie!
French is spoken around the world: in
Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, the
Caribbean, and even South America (French
Guyana)! French art and culture are admired
everywhere. Our program features travel and

German: Heritage and Tradition
Minneapolis South High School is the only school
in Minneapolis where students can choose among
eight world languages: Arabic, Chinese, French,
German, Latin, Ojibwe, Somali and Spanish.
Cultural exchanges are featured in all programs
and some languages offer CIS* (College in the
Schools) courses in partnership with the
University of Minnesota. Our students graduate
fully prepared to succeed in a global society.

important language at South. German
heritage is prominent in Minnesota's history.
Our program features exchanges with
Germany, yearly trips, CIS* German, and the
chance to apply for a Congress-Bundestag

Chinese: Language of the Future
Chinese is one of the most important and
fastest-growing languages in the world. Mr.
Dingman Yu is your insider's guide. His
program includes travel to China and CIS*

Spanish: Second Language of the US
Spanish is everywhere! Our program features
Levels 1 – 4, AP Spanish 5 (for college credit
by examination), and Spanish for Heritage
Speakers. Many students travel to
destinations throughout the Spanish-speaking

Ojibwe: "Ojibwemowin"
"Ojibwemowin" means "the language that is
alive. Students can study Ojibwe language
and culture throughout high school, gaining
confidence in speaking through a dialogue
approach and intensive cultural study.
