Purpose of the Paper
The purpose of this report is to inform the Board of the findings of the visit by the Trust’s
Patient and Public Involvement Forum (PPI Forum) to the Alan Bray Unit and Angus
MacKinnon Unit. Also attached is an action plan describing progress on the actions identified
by the group following their visits to Private Patients Unit, Rehabilitation, Duke of Gloucester,
Plaster Theatre, Alan Bray Unit and Angus MacKinnon.
Summary:
Part of the PPI Forums role is to visit the Trust’s wards and departments and make
recommendations to improve the patient’s journey.
The Forum visited Angus MacKinnon where they found there was a good team working very
hard to provide good care to the patients but they felt that more staff were needed. They also
suggested internet connections in every room because many of the patients are in hospital for
a long time.
The Forum visited Alan Bray where they found infection control was a very high priority. There
is a low turnover of staff but there is a need to build a small paediatric team. They also
recognised that the environment needed a great deal of work.
