What Type of Learner Are You?
Complete the following check lists to determine your learning preference. The type of
learner that receives the most checks is your learning preference. If you find you have
two or three learning styles that are close in number, please choose which you think most
accurately describes you as a learner.
Visual Learner:
____ You like to draw or paint.
____ You often find yourself doodling on paper or using Google Sketchup.
____ You tend to create pictures to help you visualize the meaning of something.
____ You think a perfect Saturday would be to take the train into New York City to visit
the MoMA.
____ You can recognize one or more famous works of art that doesn’t include the Mona
Lisa.
____ You know the difference between pop-art and neo-classical art.
Auditory-Musical Learner:
____ You listen to music while you complete homework.
____ You prefer to listen to your iPod during class work and can’t understand why some
teachers won’t let you!
____ You often have turn on the TV just for background noise, because you swear it
helps you concentrate, even if your Mother doesn’t believe you!
____ You find yourself humming a tune when you are alone.
____ You find it easier to remember things if you can put the information to music.
____ You play one or more instruments.
Verbal Learner:
____ You keep a journal or a blog, just for fun.
____ Your required school journal or blog is not a chore for you and you actually find it
to be helpful in your quest for learning!
____ You like to write short-stories or poems and can’t wait until for the 11th grade
“Poetry Project” because you know you will be published!
____ You read every chance you get: while drying your hair, at the breakfast table, until
you get caught during class.
____ You love to complete research, much to the amazement of many of your friends.
____ You love completing cross-word puzzles and playing Free Rice or VocabSushi
during Advisor period.
Logical Learner:

____ You understand information better if you see the data represented in a chart or a
graph.
____ You love to put things in chronological order – it just makes more sense.
____ You believe there is a logical solution to every problem.
____ You like science and experiments because you know there is a logical reason why
things occur.
Social Learner:

____ You are always surrounded by friends in between classes and during lunch.
____ You work in a job that allows you to talk to people.
____ You like working in groups and feel you learn better this way.
____ You look forward to club day, but can’t figure out which club you want to go to
because you are in so many of them.

Types of Learning Styles
Depending on your learning style, complete one of the two listed options as part of your
individual assignment.

Visual Learner - You prefer using pictures and images.
1. Find a piece of art (panting, drawing, sculpture) that represents your assigned
religion and then write an interpretation of the religious meaning behind the
work of art.
2. Create a work of art (painting, drawing, sculpture) that represents your
assigned religion and then complete a written description of the religious
meaning behind your created work of art.

Auditory-musical - You prefer using sound and music.
1. Find a religious musical piece that represents your assigned religion and then
write an interpretation of the religious meaning behind the music.
2. Record an original religious musical piece, using GarageBand, that represents
your assigned religion and then complete a written description of the religious
meaning behind your creation.

Verbal - You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
1. Find a religious literary piece (short story, poem, etc.) that represents your
assigned religion and then write an interpretation of the religious meaning
behind it.
2. Write a short story or poem that represents your assigned religion and then
write a short accompanying description of how it represents the religion.

Logical - You prefer using logic and reasoning.
1. Research the population characteristics across the globe based on your
assigned religion. Create a minimum of four charts and graphs to display the
comparisons on the distribution of population. Write an accompanying
description that explains your charts and graphs.
2. Research the population characteristics across the globe based on your
assigned religion. Use mathematical reasoning to make predictions on the
population distribution for the same group of followers in the next 25, 50, and
100 years. Write an accompanying description that explains your logical
reasoning.

Social - You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.
1. Contact a local or national religious organization and set up an interview
either via Skype or Google Chat. During the interview, talk about religious
norms, daily life, viewpoints of the religious organization on religious
tolerance, and any other pertinent information. Please create any necessary
questions before the actual interview occurs. Write up the interview
information.
2. Go to a religious service at a place of worship for your assigned religion.
Make observations during the service and write a reflection on your
experience. What religious symbols and rituals were evident during the
service? Research the meaning behind these symbols and rituals to include in
your post-observation write-up. Finally, try to talk to several of the worshipers
after the religious ceremony and include your reflections on these interactions
in your post-observation write-up.
