What Type of Learner Are You? Complete the following check lists to determine your learning preference. The type of learner that receives the most checks is your learning preference. If you find you have two or three learning styles that are close in number, please choose which you think most accurately describes you as a learner. Verbal Learner: ____ You keep a journal or a blog, just for fun. ____ Your required school journal or blog is not a chore for you and you actually find it to be helpful in your quest for learning! ____ You like to write short-stories or poems and can’t wait until for the 11th grade “Poetry Project” because you know you will be published! ____ You read every chance you get: while drying your hair, at the breakfast table, until you get caught during class. ____ You love to complete research, much to the amazement of many of your friends. ____ You love completing cross-word puzzles and playing Free Rice or VocabSushi during Advisor period. Types of Learning Styles Depending on your learning style, complete one of the two listed options as part of your individual assignment. Visual Learner - You prefer using pictures and images. 1. Verbal - You prefer using words, both in speech and writing. 1. Find a religious literary piece (short story, poem, etc.) that represents your assigned religion and then write an interpretation of the religious meaning behind it. 2. Write a short story or poem that represents your assigned religion and then write a short accompanying description of how it represents the religion. Logical - You prefer using logic and reasoning. 1. Research the population characteristics across the globe based on your assigned religion. Create a minimum of four charts and graphs to display the comparisons on the distribution of population. Write an accompanying description that explains your charts and graphs. 2. Use mathematical reasoning to make predictions on the population distribution for the same group of followers in the next 25, 50, and 100 years. Write an accompanying description that explains your logical reasoning. Social - You prefer to learn in groups or with other people. 1. Contact a local or national religious organization and set up an interview either via Skype or Google Chat. During the interview, talk about religious norms, daily life, viewpoints of the religious organization on religious tolerance, and any other pertinent information. Please create any necessary questions before the actual interview occurs. Write up the interview information. 2. Go to a religious service at a place of worship for your assigned religion. Make observations during the service and write a reflection on your experience. What religious symbols and rituals were evident during the service? Research the meaning behind these symbols and rituals to include in your post-observation write-up. Finally, try to talk to several of the worshipers after the religious ceremony and include your reflections on these interactions in your post-observation write-up. Creativity A total lack of creativity is evident in the final product. Reflection of Learning Style If this was your learning style, it wasn’t evident in your final product! Spelling and Grammar Written analysis was full of grammar and spelling errors. Too many to count. Creative final product, but did not go the extra mile. You learning style began to come through in your final product, but it is apparent you did not take the time to complete a well- defined final product.
