WHAT'S ON AT THE WATER OF LEITH VISITOR CENTRE GUIDED WALKS AND FAMILY EVENTS Sat 21st March and Sun 22nd March Balerno Branch Railway Weekend The Trust has teamed up with Colinton Local History Society to bring a unique event to the Centre. We will be hosting a model railway exhibition of Colinton Station and the surrounding area created by enthusiast Alistair Dickson along with other displays on the Balerno Branch line. Open 10am to 4pm – Free admission however donations would be appreciated. Sunday 22nd March – Railway Ramble Join this special guided walk created as part of the Balerno Branch Railway Weekend, to discover the route of the old railway from Colinton to Slateford. Meet at 1.00pm in the Car park under Gillespie bridge in Colinton, off Bridge Road £4.00 (members £2) BOOKING ESSENTIAL. The walk will finish at the Visitor Centre where you can visit the special exhibition and working model of the railway at Colinton. Sunday 29th March – River Clean Up. Join our volunteer team for this river clean up morning as we launch the Water of Leiths Spring Clean. Wear old clothes. Meet at 10.00am at the Water of Leith Visitor Centre. FREE. Sunday 31st May – Art Walk from Belford to Canonmills Join us to discover the hidden art treasures along the Walkway from the Gallery of Modern Art to Canonmills. Meet at 2.00pm at the entrance to the Gallery of Modern Art off Belford Road (near the buried Gormley Statue) Sunday 21st June – Solstice Source to Sea Challenge An intrepid team will attempt to walk some 30 miles from the source of the Water of Leith to Leith during the longest day. Support their efforts by sponsoring the team or why not join in with the challenge and walk the 12 ¾ miles from Balerno to Leith. Sunday 30th August – The Mills of Water of Leith, a guided walk Currie to Colinton Meet at the Kirkgate in Currie and walk to Spylaw Park in Colinton, discovering the relics of the rivers industrial past. £4 (members £2) BOOKING ESSENTIAL.Meet at 2.00pm at the Kirkgate in Currie and finish at Spylaw Park in Colinton Sunday 20th September – EPIC EPOCH From the Ice Age to Doomsday 12,000 BC to 1200 AD - we discover the turbulent ancient past of the Water of Leith A treasure trail of enactments, activities and hands on fun, as we unearth the clans, character and crafts of this epic period.
