JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION:
French Program Enhancement Worker
REPORTS TO:
Language Services Coordinator
CATEGORY:
37.5 hrs per week (seasonal – summer job)

SUMMARY:
Responsible for enhancing various MFRC children’s programs by adding a French component. The
candidate must be a full time student intending to return to secondary, post secondary, vocational or
technical school in the fall of 2013. The candidates my meet the eligibility criteria for the Young Canada
Works in Both Official Languages (YCWBOL), must be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory,
and must agree to travel more than 125 km for their job.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create programming for children 0-12 years of age with developmentally appropriate activities
integrating the use of the French language while stimulating social, emotional, physical, and
cognitive development

Plan, facilitate, and evaluate age appropriate French language and cultural activities for the
following three program areas: Daycare (ages: infant to 5 years), Parented Playgroups (ages:
infant to 8 years) and Casual/Deployment Care (ages: infant to 12 years)

Work with children, parents, and staff in group settings to enhance their appreciation and
understanding of French language and culture

Assist in the planning of the Summer Winter Carnival for program users and community members

Submit planning to Children’s Services Coordinator for review and evaluation

Follow MFRC policies and guidelines for the above noted programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess excellent communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills in both official languages

Creative innovative thinker

Ability to plan, organize and implement programming

Ability to effectively present information

Able to relate well with children, parents and other staff

Comfortable presenting and working with individual children, and with both small and large groups

Have strong organizational skills

Be outgoing, energetic and optimistic

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong interest in the community

Security clearance/child welfare check required
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Preference will be given to applicants with training and/or strong interest in early childhood
education or recreation programming

Fluent in both written and oral French and English

Experience working with children
