The centre is a local member based association driven by a community development framework to
deliver programs in the following areas:

The Centre has been working with the community since the early 1980’s and currently operates from
two sites: The Neighourhood Centre- 967 Brunswick Street, and The Homeless Assessment and
Referral Team (HART4000) is based at 11 Eagle Tce, City.

Responsible to:
Service Manager and the Management Committee
Responsible for:
Co-ordinating the community and centre-based activities of the New
Farm Neighbourhood Centre and facilitating access to the centre by
local people.
SACS Classification

Approx $59,000 pa + 9% Superannuation + Salary sacrifice available (up
to $617 tax free per f/n)

Duties:
Centre Facilitation






Maintain the Centre as a place of welcome and hospitality, generative of respect and the
satisfaction of creative relationships and community involvement.
Provide referral and information to people using the Centre, assisting them to access
community resources and to develop networks and relationships.
Oversee and co-ordinate the open house services of the centre including access to
computers, shower and washing facilities. This function includes the management of shared
spaces to ensure that constituents feel safe and respected.
Maintain an overall awareness of the individuals and groups based at and using the Centre
facilities to continually promote relationship development, information and skills exchange
and creative opportunities.
Facilitate volunteer roster to ensure that the reception role of the centre is covered.
Collect, maintain and analyse accurate data collection regarding people accessing the Centre,
groups, activities and events.

Volunteer Co-ordination



Recruit, train, facilitate and support Centre volunteers within a personal and community
development framework.
Ensure that volunteers develop a strong knowledge of the purpose, programs and plans of
the Centre and engage in Centre processes which interest and benefit them.
Maintain policies and procedures relating to volunteers and the Centre.
Community Development and promotion







Encourage local people to initiate, participate in and inform Centre based programs and
activities.
Utilise publications and media to promote the Centre and to promote opportunities to
participate in local events, networks and structures.
Ensure website information is up to date and relevant.
Facilitate and resource centre based activities and/or groups in response to community need.
Facilitate community building processes within the Centre using an empowerment
framework to stimulate synergies and capacity building for all stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with local groups and organisations to respond to identified needs in
the New Farm area through networking, participation in consortiums, and support of
initiatives.
Provide opportunities for local groups/organisations to access the physical, organisation and
human resources of the Centre.
Program Management







Assess the needs and resources of the community through demographic analysis, feedback
processes and liaison with key stakeholders such as Brisbane City Council. Use findings to
inform planning and marketing processes of the Centre.
Develop 1-2 calendars per year outlining community development activities, groups and
meals to be held at the Centre. This process should be informed by Speak-Out outcomes.
In collaboration with other staff and local people assess the impact of social and economic
changes in the area and assist with implementing Centre-based responses to those issues.
Implement ongoing evaluation/feedback mechanisms for all Centre based activities.
Identify new projects/programs in consultation with the Service Manager, volunteers and
other stakeholders.
Identify funding opportunities and develop funding submissions in collaboration with
constituents and other staff members.
Coordinate projects and programs, including budget oversight.

Organisational culture and participation





Abide by all relevant policies and procedures.
Commit to maintaining high levels of professionalism and confidentiality with other staff
members and stakeholders.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, team building and strategic planning processes.
Prepare and provide monthly written reports to the Service Manager for presentation to the
Management Committee and Quarterly reports for the Dept of Communities.
Supervise students from a variety of institutions according to the student supervision policies
and procedures of the Centre.

Key Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated success in planning, implementing and evaluating community
development initiatives.
2. Experience and comfort working with people with sometimes challenging behaviours.
3. Highly developed interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to
work collaboratively and strategically with a variety of people within work teams, among
Centre constituents, across different community organisations, businesses, sectors and
government departments.
4. Sound written skills and experience in preparing funding submissions, reports and
resources.
Desirable Competencies/Qualifications







Formal qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Psychology,
Public Health or related field
Experience in group facilitation
Experience in event management
Experience in student/staff supervision
Understanding and commitment to personal care in the work context
Appreciation of difference
Established skills in using Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Excel.

Current Queensland Drivers License
