Biomes Research Project Unit: Project Due Date: Tuesday, Ecology January 6, 2015 Objective: To create a Google Presentation, describing components of a selected biome To identify components of an ecosystem To describe how different environments support different varieties of organisms To work in groups of 4 students to research a biome Components of Research: 1. Plants: Find at least 5 dominant plant species and describe how they have adapted to their environment; must include at least 2 pictures 2. Animals: Find at least 5 dominant animals found in the ecosystem and how they have adapted to their environment. Compile a food chain and discuss top predators and bottom of the food chain organisms. Identify which type of consumer they are (carnivore, herbivore, etc…) Must contain at least 2 pictures, including food chain and food web 3. Climate: Discuss the type of climate it has (average temperature, average amount of precipitation); Include a graph showing temperature or precipitation 4. Region: Locate the areas of the world where the biome is located. Discuss geography, countries, states, etc… Include a world map showing the biome 5. Pre AP- Human Effect: Find examples of how the area has been affected (positive and negative) by humans; 6. Pre AP- Must include a homemade video of any of the parts Sources: Must use at least 3 sources (one must be a book); Works Cited page is required Grading: Biomes Notes in science journal (to be completed when presentations are completed the week of January 6) Google Presentation (test grade) with oral presentation Biomes Quiz on ALL biomes (can use notes) Plants Animals Climate Region Human Effect Video Overall Presentation (spelling, grammar, etc.) 20 pointsExceeds Expectations At least 5 organisms discussed including adaptations At least 5 organisms discussed including adaptations Rainfall, Average Temperature included 15pointsMeets Expectations Missing 1 or 2 organisms or details 10 pointsFair 5 pointsPoor Missing 3 or 4 organisms and details Incomplete Missing 1 or 2 organisms or details Missing 3 or 4 organisms and details Incomplete Missing one of the components Missing components/ insufficient information Incomplete Map shown; locations of the biomes discussed Effects explained in details Missing componentslocation Missing componentsmap No information Missing components Missing components Missing Excellent quality; full of information Good Poor quality Missing Amazing Great Good Poor *** Rubric adjusted for Pre AP to include Human Effect and Video***
