MacDonald, PhD RN APNG Genetics/Genomics Cancer Risk Consultant Dr. Deborah MacDonald is in private practice as a genetics/genomics cancer risk consultant. She has worked in genetic cancer risk since 1992, first at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and then from1997 until late 2012, at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, CA where she helped establish the Division of Clinical Cancer Genetics, was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2008, and served on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Guidelines panel from 2001-2012. For 2013, she was a Senior Clinical Advisor (contractor) to the National Cancer Institute, Center for Cancer Research, Genetics Branch. Dr. MacDonald is an author on more than 50 cancer genetics publications, was a founding member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Oncology Nursing Society's cancer genetics special interest groups, and has held several ISONG positions including member-at-large, newsletter editor and past president (1999). She has been credentialed in genetics (APNG) since 2001. Description This webinar introduces breast cancer risk assessment from the beginning of BRCA gene testing in the mid-90's to the emerging use of multi-gene panels. Also discussed will be how genetics and genomics influences breast cancer screening, strategies for reducing hereditary breast cancer risk, and the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Participants attending the entire webinar, completing and returning the evaluation tool will receive 1 continuing nursing education contact hour. Who Should Attend?
