Video 'Promoting Your School Library'
This short promotional film, developed by ALIA Schools, is for principals, school
communities, teacher librarians, library staff and teachers. The film gives an overview of
the exciting role that school libraries and teacher librarians can play by contributing to
student success in learning in both primary and secondary school settings. (Published 6

Video ‘Do School Libraries Need to Have Books?
Another YouTube video that could be useful for advocacy is ‘Do School Libraries Need
to Have Books?’ Annie Kidder, Paul Kay and Diane Maliszewski discuss the evolution of
the school library and whether or not computers are slowly replacing books.

CSIRO releases ScienceImage archive into public domain
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has
released its ScienceImage library under a Creative Commons Attribution license. CSIRO
has provided permission for anyone to freely use, repost and transform the collection’s
4000+ high definition images and videos. The library represents more than six decades
worth of environmental, industrial, agricultural and technological research images.
CSIRO’s library is separated into a variety of categories including Animals, Buildings,
Soil Science, Technology and Water. Many of the recently released videos and images
are accompanied by details about the research project involved, or the specimen
photographed.

Makerspace Kits (Brisbane Catholic Education only)
For those in Brisbane Catholic Education, borrow these pre-made kits as a ‘try before
you buy’. ResourceLink have created kits of resources and equipment that can be used
to run a Maker Faire. They can be borrowed by schools who wish to investigate using
this style of hands on learning. The kits can only be lent out to Brisbane Catholic
Education and Catholic Religious Institute Schools within the Brisbane Archdiocese.

The National Library of Australia is pleased to announce that the following newspapers,
digitised by the National Library through the Australian Newspaper Plan program, have
been recently added to Digitised newspapers and more on Trove. Many of these
newspapers are currently being added to Trove and further issues will become available
shortly.
