Spelling Weekly Homework Activities
Directions: Each night Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday you will choose one activity to
complete for spelling homework. Be sure you do not do the same activity that you
completed in class during the day. Use your checklist to keep track of the activities
completed each week.
1. Draw and Label- Choose 10 words to draw a picture to go with the word and
then label the picture with the spelling word.
2. Sentences- Pick 10 spelling words and write a sentence for each word. Each
sentence should have at least 8 words in the sentence.
3. Writing Definitions- Choose 5 spelling words to write a definition to reinforce
your understanding of word meanings. Be sure to follow the framework provided
below.

Example:

5. Use Sentences to Describe a Word- Choose 5 spelling words to complete this
activity. Be sure to follow the framework provided below. Remember for this
activity you may slightly change the framework if you need to.

6. Definition Word Chart- Choose 5 spelling words to complete this activity. Be
sure to follow the framework provided below. If you can’t come up with your
own definition, you may use a dictionary.

7. Word Characteristics- Choose 5 spelling words to complete this activity. Create
a set of five to ten clues about a spelling word. Try to create as many statements
about the word as possible.
Example:
Spelling Word: Muffin
 names something
 has two tall letters in the middle
 has two vowels
 begins and ends with a consonant
 has two parts
 has three letters in each part
 rhymes with the name of a bird
8. Word Web- Choose 5 spelling words to complete this activity. A Word Web is a
way of beginning with one word and making different kids of associations. The
associations can be related to:
a. the root word
b. the letters in the word
c. the patterns in the word
d. the word meanings
e. words that have the same sound
f. words that have a similar part
g. words that begin with the same prefix
h. words in different forms
i. words with the same base or root
j. words that mean the same or almost the same
