B. Grindstones/Millstones
All millstones uncovered in the three seasons were of the hand quern type and, with rare
exceptions, only in fragmentary form. Where it can be assessed the extent of survival is
noted. The measurements given are of the item as found, not as reconstructed. A note is
made if the item has features (e.g. rynd slots, channels or handle slots). Where possible,
with reasonable confidence, an attempt has been made to identify a stone as the upper
(catillus) or lower (meta) element of the quern.
