COVENANT GLEN POSITION DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS TITLE: FLSA: Resident Care Assistant Non Exempt SUMMARY OF DUTIES: An employee in this position provides direct care to residents in a Home for the Aged (HFA) Assisted Living and Memory Care environment by assisting them with activities of daily living. An employee in this position works under the supervision of the Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director and Shift Supervisor as warranted. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assist each resident of the community with 24 hour care through activities of daily living, including but not limited to personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, walking and toileting; respond to resident calls and requests in a timely manner; quality execution of care to meet the needs of each resident’s individual service care program. 2. Actively look for ways to help residents, increase their enjoyment of residency at the community and assist them in maintaining their dignity; respond to a resident’s needs/concerns and establish open and effective working relationships with residents through regular interaction; encourage and support residents. 3. Observe, evaluate, and record conditions, reactions and changes in the physical, behavioral and/or mental condition of residents and care provided; take and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, and pulse), height and weight measurements, and observe food and liquid intake when indicated. 4. Participate with residents in recreational activities on and off facility grounds; escort residents to meals, community activities, and scheduled appointments including preparation of related resident records/information. 5. Make visual observations to ensure resident’s whereabouts and safety; responsible for safety of residents in case of emergencies. 6. Practice appropriate lifting and transfer techniques when assisting residents, general safety, environmental, and infection control procedures; safe handling, use and disposal of cleaning products, etc; familiar with (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment and universal precautions relating to OSHA-Blood-borne Pathogen Standard. 7. Perform light housekeeping tasks in conjunction with housekeeping staff such as emptying trash, making/changing beds, mopping floors, etc. 8. Operate washing machines and clothes dryers; handle dirty clothes and linens, sort, fold, and put away community and personal resident clothing according to community procedures. 9. Report to Executive Director any needed equipment, repairs, supplies, resident appointment information, prescriptions, physician orders; any incident, problem or concern regarding a resident. 10. Participate in professional in-service education and training for self-development and enhanced resident care development and licensing certification; attend a minimum of 10 in-service training programs per 12-month period. 11. Become familiar with location of community’s Disaster Manual and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and the reporting system specified in the Right to Know policy; awareness of general safety, environmental, and infection control procedures; familiar with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and universal precautions. 12. Excellent attendance, timeliness in reporting to work, and discussion of all absences, injuries and illnesses with Executive Director. 13. Perform other related duties as assigned. POSITION REQUIRMENTS-KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge and skills regarding the care of residents residing in an assisted living/memory care community, including knowledge of community’s procedures and philosophies; knowledge of taking and recording resident vital signs, including blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc. 2. Friendly, courteous manner; highly motivated, patient, compassionate; excellent communication skills with residents of varying degrees of abilities. 3. Good multitasking and prioritizing skills including ability to meet deadlines, solve problems, act independently and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to react quickly and decisively in the event of an emergency. 4. Affinity for seniors and genuine care regarding their well-being with an ability to maintain appropriate attitude and conduct for the welfare of the residents; demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the resident and an understanding of their rights, the aging process and diseases of the elderly. 5. Present an open, positive, and professional image to all residents, visitors, co-workers and general public by displaying general warmth and kindness in a friendly, courteous, respectful manner at all times and under all circumstances. 6. Display honesty, integrity, dependability and ability to work as a team member, possess good interpersonal skills and maintain a positive attitude toward employment; able to communicate effectively and appropriately and maintain confidentiality of resident and employee information in compliance with HIPPA regulations. 7. Reliable transportation to work with flexibility to work on any day of the week, any designated shift. 8. Ability to identify own personal strengths and weaknesses and discuss with supervision. 9. Satisfactory references, background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical and current PPD (or chest x-ray) for tuberculosis. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High school or GED equivalent CNA Certification or minimum 2 years of experience in health related and/or elder care environment PHYSICAL REQUIEMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 1. Work is performed in a residential community setting; possible exposure to unpleasant conditions such as cleaning of human waste and bodily fluids to maintain a sanitary environment for residents, visitors and staff of the community. 2. Speaking and hearing required to perform job responsibilities; reading/writing; understand directions and communicate verbally. 3. Specific vision abilities required include color, close and far vision acuity, depth perception and ability to adjust vision focus. 4. Employee must be in good physical health and have the ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, sit, lift, grasp, perform repetitive motions involving bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, fingering, wrist motions and foot operations; ability to stand for an extended period of time without significant rest period; possess the strength/stamina to lift more than 50 lbs. with assist.
