Project Scientist, OICR Health Services Research Program
Knowledge Translation Research Network
Up to 3 YEARS Full-Time CONTRACT
The Health Services Research Program is a partnership between Ontario Institute for Cancer Research
(OICR) and Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). The successful candidate will have specialization and expertise in
knowledge translation and evaluation to contribute/take a lead role in knowledge translation research, and
develop a knowledge translation research network. S/he will direct knowledge transfer and exchange
activities, developing communication documents to disseminate knowledge and findings. The Project
Scientist will be instrumental in developing and conducting research, promoting research utilization and
developing a plan to disseminate/implement research and project findings to appropriate audiences in
collaboration with members of the OICR Health Services Research Program.
S/he will also build and support collaborations, both internally and externally, to create a learning
community and, with external stakeholder partners, build longer-term and mutually beneficial relationships.
The Project Scientist in collaboration with the Director – Dr. Eva Grunfeld – will be responsible for the
preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. The Project Scientist will also play a key role in the
submission of grant proposals to external funding agencies. S/he will also develop an independent
research program relevant to the activities of the Knowledge Translation Research Network.
The position is provincial in scope and based at the Department of Family and Community Medicine,
University of Toronto, Ontario. The appointment is research staff of the WCH. Salary will be commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
Skills and Qualifications.
The applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in the social or health sciences and specialized expertise in
knowledge translation, networking, and communications. The applicant must have solid grounding in
research and/or evaluation and have an appreciation of mixed methods, regardless of disciplinary
background. Applicants must have a proven track record in peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated
ability to successfully undertake knowledge translation activities is required. The incumbent will have
considerable experience working in a university research setting, with large, interdisciplinary teams, and
managing complex projects. Experience in cancer health services will be considered an asset. The
candidate will have excellent interpersonal and team-building skills and a demonstrated capacity for
establishing research collaborations, the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting, the
capacity for working with diverse communities, and the ability to provide leadership.
Start date
Immediate start date preferred, but negotiable.
