Chamberlain to King Charles VI and to the Dauphin(the eldest son of the King) and to
the Lessor of Rouen; He was still under the guardianship of Raoul de Fescamp, his
uncle, with his brothers and sisters in 1404. He served in 1410 for the Earl of the
Infantry in the army of the King, rising against several Lords who had banded together
in defiance; was received before Paris with 19 Squires of his company and won the
good graces of the King and his infinite favor; In the middle of this, he was appointed on
December 29, 1410 to the post of Captain of the Army and Governor of the Venerie,
which disappointed Robert of Franconville. He was sworn in the following January 2
and performed these duties until 1413 when he almost died, recovering a short time
later. He was captured in the Battle of Azincourt in 1415 and was held as a prisoner.
The King, in consideration of his services to him, returned the favor by naming him the
Lessor of Rouen the following August 3 and on July 21, 1418, the Mayor of the city of
Compiegne where he remained until June 18, 1422. At the time, the English controlled
the city of Paris; thus it was the second time that he was relieved of his titles of Captain
of the Army and Governor of the Venerie, this time caused by his loyalty to the
expatriate Dauphin, the regent of the kingdom. He was again taken prisoner by the
English in the Battle of Crevant in 1423. To repay him for his loss, King Charles VII
gave him the post of Grandmaster and Supreme Minister for Water and Forests of the
