Thesis In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth’s “Out-Out” speech in act four is used to show the change in Lady Macbeth’s character, from the controlling wife to a guilty woman. Lady Macbeth, during the scene, is trying to clean the nonexistent blood from her hands; in this case blood is used to identify her guilt from killing Duncan. The speech Lady Macbeth gives while she is sleepwalking can also be used to interpret the guilt she has by showing the insanity she has developed from what she has done. The fact that Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking shows her restlessness that she has obtained from the things she has done throughout the play. In Lady Macbeth’s “Out-Out” speech the nonexistent blood on her hands, her choice of words, and her restlessness are used to prove her guilt that she has from what she and her husband have done.
