PHOTOGRAPHS: It is common practice for names and photographs to be published in the local media when the Jersey Eisteddfod holds either of its two Festivals. If you have any concerns in this regard, please contact the General Administrator or Section Chairman who will ensure that your wishes are respected. COMPETITORS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: Teachers and parents should be aware of their responsibilities in entering performers with limited capabilities or special needs, bearing in mind the limitations imposed by the stage and the surrounding environment. Teachers or parents should pass on to the Adjudicator, via the organisers, any relevant information which might have an impact on the Adjudicator’s task. UNATTENDED PROPERTY: The Executive Council of the Jersey Eisteddfod will not be responsible for the loss of any articles of value left in the theatre, either Backstage or Front of house. INSURANCE: The Executive Council of the Jersey Eisteddfod does not hold insurance for Competitors’ property. The responsibility for insuring personal property (e.g.: Musical instruments, furniture, theatrical "properties", etc.) rests with the Competitor. Page 2 1. * * * * * * 2. * * * * * CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Age is reckoned as at the 1st September in the year of competition. All competitions are open to Amateurs. Open Competitions are open to Amateurs and Professionals. The term ‘Professional’ in this Festival is defined as one who holds a qualifying diploma and/or one who receives regular fees for teaching the art concerned. Those in training for diplomas are regarded as students and are not debarred from amateur competitions. Ensure that copies of own choice pieces are WITH the entry form and give titles of all own choice pieces on entry form. Photocopying: an agreement has been reached by The British Federation of Festivals with the Copyright Licensing Agency, that a copy of own choice poetry/prose may be made for the adjudicator’s use. In the case of prepared reading (Class 730) competitors are asked to submit the title of their reading on the entry form. Entry forms should be completed in BLOCK CAPITALS. OWN CHOICE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT THE TEXT FOR THE ADJUDICATOR. Duologue and group entries CANNOT be accepted unless permission has been obtained from the relevant publisher. This is the responsibility of the entrant. CONDITIONS OF PERFORMANCE After entries are closed, lot shall decide the order in which competitors are to appear. Any competitor failing to appear in his/her turn without a valid reason may be disqualified. Competitor(s)/teachers admitted free of charge to those sessions in which they are taking part. Only authorised officials may remain at the side of the stage during any competition. In no circumstances will the making of unofficial sound, video or still photographic recording be permitted at any performance presented or organised by The Council of the Jersey Eisteddfod. Smoking is NOT permitted during a performance. If smoking is vital to the scene, it must be stated on the entry form and application made IN ADVANCE to the Stage Director, so that special arrangements can be made and the necessary concession granted. Use of combustible items such as straw is PROHIBITED, unless application is made in advance to the Stage Director. This should be stated on the entry form. All properties, scenery, furniture and actors shall remain on the stage area during the performance. Any deviation must be cleared with the Stage Director. Competitors involved in duologues, scenes or projects will all have full stage lighting, i.e. the lighting will be set by the Stage Management at the beginning of the week of competition and not changed during week. The backcloth may be changed in consultation with the Stage Director for adult classes and for junior/senior groups if performing in the evening only. Younger competitors who wish to enter a duologue with a competitor from another age group must enter the class of the older competitor. The age difference must be no more than one year In Verse Speaking classes, gesture should be minimal TIME LIMITS SET IN THE SYLLABUS MUST BE ADHERED TO. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A DOWNGRADING OF AWARD. Page 3 IMPORTANT NOTICES REGARDING CONDITIONS OF PERFORMANCE. The Jersey Eisteddfod is pleased to announce that it has entered into an Agreement with the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society. This means that entrants do not have to seek copyright permission for any poetry, prose or solo dramatic items performed, to a time limit of ten minutes. Performers and teachers will be delighted to know that their participation in this Festival means that authors will be directly reimbursed as a consequence of their works being performed at this Festival. Solo dramatic items must be announced with title and author at the time of performance to qualify for copyright indemnity and the performer must not change the words or gender of the character. DUOLOGUES & GROUP DRAMATIC ACTIVITIES ARE NOT COVERED BY THIS AGREEMENT AND COPYRIGHT FOR THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE SOUGHT PRIOR TO THE TIME OF ENTRY. SONGS FROM THE SHOWS – VOCAL AND DANCE ENTRIES All performances using music from shows in current production are subject to copyright law. Songs from shows in current production may be sung as a concert item. i.e., with no costume or movement without need for copyright permission. Where movement or costume is included in a performance copyright permission is required and the Festival Committee accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate copyright permission has been sought. Performers or teachers with queries on how to obtain copyright permission for performance items before making their entries should contact Festivals House on 0906 302 130 - calls cost maximum of 50p per minute. Duologue and Group entries CANNOT be accepted on entry night unless permission has been obtained from the copyright holder, whose name MUST be stated on each entry form. Any item entered, the content of which may not be suitable for an ‘all ages’ audience, should be specifically notified on the entry form. An announcement will be made of the performance prior to the commencement of the class involved, at the specified time. 3 MARKING WILL BE IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES PLATINUM, equivalent to 90 marks & over. GOLD, equivalent to 87 – 89 marks SILVER, equivalent to 84 - 86 marks. BRONZE, equivalent to 80 - 83 marks. COPPER, equivalent to 79 marks or less. OUTSTANDING DISTINCTION COMMENDED MERIT FAIR 4 TROPHIES AND VOUCHERS. These will be awarded to competitors who receive a Silver (or above) certificate. The decision of the Adjudicator shall be final. Trophies won during last year’s Eisteddfod must be returned on or before the Final Entry day. Competitors who fail to return their trophy will have their entry refused. 5 ENGLISH, SPEECH AND DRAMA AWARD English, Speech and Drama Junior and Senior Awards will be presented to those who, in the Adjudicator’s opinion give the most outstanding performances at the Gala Concert. 6 Page 4 DISPUTES In the case of any dispute where the Adjudicator is unable to resolve the issue, an Arbitration Committee shall be convened to settle the matter. The Committee shall consist of the Chairman and Secretary, together with one of the Executive Officers acting as Chairman.
