General Medical Services
 Routine appointments can be booked in advance
by telephone, at reception or on line
 You can make appointments, view your medical
record or order prescriptions on line once you have
completed a patient access form and provided
proof of identity.
 To cope with demand for appointments the
practice operates an open access appointment
system each morning where a GP will deal with
one problem. This is a sit and wait service.
 You can request an urgent appointment with a
Doctor or Nurse Practitioner and where possible
this will be available on the same day.
 Requests for repeat prescriptions will be dealt with
within 48 hours. (Two working days, excluding
bank holidays and weekends). This can be in
person, on line or by email/patient access.
Telephone requests are not accepted for reasons
of safety.
 The practice will close for compulsory training one
afternoon a month. Details on the website or in
reception.
 If you have a comment, suggestion or complaint
please ask for a form at reception or use the
website. We will try to provide a prompt reply to
any complaints about the care provided at the
Rushden Medical Centre.
 A comprehensive practice booklet, setting out the
services that the surgery can provide is available
on request.
Our Practice Charter
Our aim is to offer the highest standard of health care
and advice to our patients within available resources.
We have a team approach to patient care and
endeavour to monitor the service provided to patients,
to ensure that it meets current standards of excellence.
 You will be registered with the practice.
 You will have appropriate drugs and medicine
prescribed subject to appropriate review.
 You will be referred to an appropriate consultant
when the GP thinks it is necessary.
 You will be referred for a second opinion if the GP
think it is advisable.
 You will be treated with courtesy and respect by all
practice personnel and we expect the same in
return.
 You may have access to your medical records,
subject to any limitations in the law, and know that
those working for the NHS are under a legal duty
to keep the contents confidential.
 Your religious and cultural beliefs will be
respected.
 If you have hearing, visual or physical difficulties
please let the receptionist know so that we can
ensure you are able to fully use our services.
Patient’s Responsibilities
 Please let us know if you no longer need or cannot
attend for your appointment. If you are late for
your appointment you may be asked to rebook at
another time. We can use this time to see another
patient. Many hours when a doctor or nurse could
be seeing a patient are wasted simply because
people do not tell us that they will not be keeping
their appointment.
 We have the right to remove from our list patients
who persistently fail to attend booked
appointments.
 A home visit should only be requested for those
who are unable to come to the surgery because of
serious illness or infirmity. Please ring the surgery
before 11:30 am if at all possible.
 An urgent appointment is for a single urgent
medical problem.
 Please speak to the receptionist if you require a
sick note or repeat prescription.
 We would ask you to be patient if the Doctor is
running late. This is often due to unforeseeable
emergencies.
 Please make a separate appointment for each
patient that needs to be seen. This allows the
Doctor enough time to treat each patient with the
time that they deserve.
 Please act in a responsible and courteous manner
whilst on the practice premises for the safety and
comfort of others.
 Please treat all surgery staff, fellow patients, carers
and visitors politely and with respect. The practice
has a zero tolerance policy and violence or verbal
harassment will not be tolerated or accepted. If
such behaviour occurs you may be removed from
the list and will need to register at another surgery.
