Some workshops require participants to bring materials or tools with them. Please pay close
attention to these requirements.

SESSION 1
101 Step 3: Daisy Grade level Essentials

Build on core leadership knowledge you gained in the first two steps of Leadership Training. Step 3
will introduce you to aspects of the grade level with which you have chosen to work. You will learn
about the age-specific factors that directly affect your girls and your group, and dive into the Journeys
and the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting. You will get to meet other leaders who work with girls at the
same level you do and discuss valuable tips!

best practices and simple steps to get your girls on track! This workshop will include tips on
supporting your girls along the way while keeping the project girl led.
106 Be Prepared! Brownie/Junior First Aid Badges - Mary Jane Moessner at Swatara Shelter
The Girl Scout motto is “Be Prepared.” An important part of that is a working understanding of first
aid, no matter where your girls find themselves! Let’s review what you need to know to help your girls
earn their First Aid badge.
Bring: Candy/Mint Tin (Altoids, Sucrets) and a copy of the First Aid Badge requirements
107 Goofy Games – Faith Koons

Aardvark/Baboon, The Egg Game, Jamackwack, Harry One Spot, Spoons. Have fun learning some
silly (and quick) games that your girls will love! Suitable for all age levels; older girls will enjoy
teaching these to younger girls.

108 Pallets with a Purpose: Bench –John Hoff
at Arts & Crafts Barn
Are you intimidated by one of the hottest crafting trends? Deconstructing wood pallets seems much
harder than it is! Help your girls earn the Woodworking Badge and repurpose valuable materials!
You will be amazed at how easy it is! This workshop will teach you how to make a small bench.
Bring: Leather work gloves, hammer, safety glasses
109 Wilton Cake Decorating – Jamie Mosser
at Brandywine Cabin
Whip up some delicious skills in this Introduction to the Wilton Cake Decorating Badge! Get ideas,
steps, and resources for cake (or cupcake) decorating with your troop!
110 The NEXT 100 Years – Peggy Labosh
at Perkiomen Cabin
Join "Juliette Low" to see where we have been - and where we're headed! We'll explore all the firsts
in Girl Scouting. You'll take home some traditional and historic program ideas that you can use with
your troop, as well as reference materials for completing or augmenting the "G.S Way" badge
activities moving forward to the NEXT 100 years!
111 Chocolate Candy Making for Fun – Maryanne Cirigliano
at Lackawanna Cabin
Do you have a sweet tooth? Then join this workshop to learn the basics of working with chocolate!
We’ll cover the fundamentals of chocolate making: hand dipping everyday items, creating tasty
fillings, using molds, as well as coloring and adding flavors. Remember, everything you make – you
take! All products made by the class are divided up equally among the participants! Bring a container
to take away your goodies. This workshop may use nut products.
Bring: Apron, pen (if you want to take notes), small container to take away your creations.
112 Scat and Tracks – Tina Smith
at Brandywine Shelter
Learn an ancient skill using a multidisciplinary approach, storytelling, math, and science! Find out how
animal tracks, signs, and what animals leave behind (feathers, bones, skulls, and scat) can tell you
about our woodland friends. This is a hands-on workshop that will enhance your It’s Your Planet-Love
It! Journey experience!
Bring: Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for traveling around camp.
601 Basket Weaving: GS Table Top Basket – Debra Zvanut
at Allegheny Cabin
DOUBLE SESSION This course runs from Session 1 through Session 2, you must attend both
sessions. Make sure you register for both parts of this course!
The ancient art of basket weaving is alive and well - now learn how to teach it to your girls!
Participants will learn the basic skills needed to complete a small basket with a wooden base. Skills
include setting up the spokes, start and stop weaving, and a folded rim. This workshop is a double
class period.
Bring: Garden shears, pencil, old towel, measuring tape
801 Event Director – Maryann Rodda
at Swatara Cabin
DOUBLE SESSION This course runs from Session 1 through Session 2, you must attend both
sessions. Make sure you register for both parts of this course!
Ever have an exciting event idea but didn’t know where to begin? If you are creative, fun, and ready
to bring your idea to life, Event Director is for you! You will understand the step by step process on
how to execute events no matter the size. Event Director Training is a course designed specifically
for volunteers who are interested in planning and implementing events large or small, simple or
complex, for a Service Unit and/or troop(s). This three-hour course is designed to give volunteers the
tools necessary to develop events ranging from partial days to weekend-long. Volunteers should be
prepared to enhance planning skills and begin designing an event.
902 MEDIC First Aid / CPR
at Ginder House
FOUR SESSIONS This course runs from Session 1 through Session 4, you must attend all four
sessions. Make sure you register for all four parts of this course!
First Aid and CPR training is required of the adult acting as the primary first-aider for Girl Scout
Troop or group activities when specified in the Safety Activity Checkpoints. This is a four session
course. There is an additional fee of $30 for this workshop.
Bring: Pillow for kneeling (optional), adult learning card (optional) and note taking materials.
903 Basic Outdoor Skills – Leslie Monahan and Amy Fields
at Pennypack
MULTIPLE SESSIONS This course begins Friday evening at 7pm sharp and continues into Saturday,
finishing in time for participation in Session 4. FOR THIS REASON, when registering, please
select part 4 of 4 for BOS during Session 4 AND another workshop of your choice during
Session 4. This is an overnight training and attendance for the entire duration is required. Sleeping
accommodations will be Pennypack for all participants for the weekend. Make sure you register for all
4 parts of this course.
This course will prepare volunteers to work cooperatively with girls to plan and carry out a camping
trip, apply the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to outdoor programs, learn proper fire-starting
methods, be able to build a small wood fire, and learn how to prepare a meal outdoors. Your
accommodations for the weekend will be Pennypack Tents.
Note: Indoor Overnight Skills is a prerequisite. Participants must complete check in before 7:00 p.m.
on Friday because training begins at 7:00 p.m. sharp in the Parking Lot with all gear.
Bring: Refer to packing list provided in Indoor Overnight Skills for needed items.
SESSION 2
201 History of Camp Laughing Waters – Marj Eby
at Tall Trees
Step back into history and learn all about how Camp Laughing Waters originated! How did the units
at Camp Laughing Waters get their names? How long has CLW been a Girl Scout camp? Dive into
this local history hotspot with a guided walking tour. Please note that participants will need to be able
to walk a fair distance around camp.
Bring: Camera if desired to take pictures of camp.
202 The Ins and Outs of Adult Recognitions – Jessica Skone
at Dining Hall
Everyone loves to be recognized! Discover which Adult Recognitions are available for yourself or
other volunteers in your Service Units through GSUSA and GSEP! This workshop will provide you
with a basic overview of the awards - as well as the upcoming 2015-2016 nomination process.

204 Using the GSEP Museums and Archives Collections – Sonia Foderaro

You might not realize that Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania has a wealth of historical Girl Scout
gems - and they're available to you and your girls! This workshop will teach you how to use the
GSEP museums/archives to help your girls earn the Girl Scout Ways and other badges.
205 Easy and Fun Potato Candy – Ann Hoff and Kathi Nemeth

Cooking can be incorporated into many badges at every age level while helping to develop creativity,
team work, and leadership skills. Come learn how to turn a potato into a delicious treat using
inexpensive, simple, and fun recipes. Please note this workshop may use peanut butter.
206 Journeys for Older Girls –Cathy Moulton

Journeys can be fun, girl-led, and completed in one weekend! Come to this workshop and learn how!
207 Gift Boxes – Faith Koons
at Shenango Cabin
Take your gift giving to the next level with the box you present it in! Learn how to make cute little gift
boxes using leftover greeting cards, medium-sized gift boxes out of wallpaper scraps, and larger gift
boxes out of poster board. These are great projects that girls will love to personalize!
Bring: Gift card measuring at least 5” X 5” or larger (holiday, birthday, any kind works), scissors, ruler
208 Leadership Pathway – Tori Laird

Come learn about the Girl Scout Leadership Pathway! There are many leadership opportunities
available for girls of all ages. We’ll talk about the leadership awards such as the Torch awards and
VIT, camp leadership programs such as Program Aide, CIT, and Camp Intern, and service awards
such as the Community Service Bars. Also - learn about the Bronze Award and how it prepares girls
to go for the Silver & Gold Award. Hear about the GSUSA and WAGGGS awards that are available to
girls of every age group. Find the leadership experience that is best for your girls!
209 Disc Golf

Learn how to play one of the fastest growing sports around! It's fun, easy, readily available, and
exciting! Disc Golf courses are everywhere, including Camp Laughing Waters! Bring your flying disc
(frisbee) and learn the basics.

Ceremonies are an important tradition in Girl Scouting. Learn about basic Girl Scout Ceremonies and
how to plan them with your troop.
211 Girl Led Summer Day Camp Planning –Amy Gallo

Interested in older girl retention and younger girl summer fun? Then this is an opportunity you should
consider! At this workshop, you'll learn how to provide a leadership opportunity to older girls by
organizing and offering a Service Unit Day Camp!
212 Healthy Habits for D/B/J – Theresa Santalucia

In partnership with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, Girl Scouts has developed three
“healthy habits” booklets for volunteers to use in conjunction with the It’s Your Planet-Love It!
Journey. The Healthy Habits booklets relate to the Journeys and encourage girls to lead active,
healthy lifestyles. Get information to incorporate into your troop's Journey!
213 Happy Birthday Juliette Low! – Theresa Brown

Join in the celebration! Marking our founder's birthday each year with special activities is a great way
to remind your girls of the Girl Scout Mission! Enjoy a few activities that you can take back to your
troop to celebrate Juliette Gordon Low's Birthday.
701 Reflector Ovens and Buddy Burners - Barb Rhodes

There's more to outdoor cooking with girls than just foil packets! This workshop will teach fun ways to
cook outdoors! Make your own buddy burner out of recycled materials, then cook a simple lunch
using Buddy Burners and Reflector Ovens. Your girls will be amazed when you teach them how to
do this for themselves. (Bring tin snips if you have them.)

702 Dutch Oven: Hawaiian Luau –Nancy Griffith

Turn mealtime into a luau with these easy Dutch oven recipes! Get tips on how to liven up your
outdoor camp meals with 1 pot (OK, maybe 4) cooking. Participants will prepare an inspired meal,
complete with a delicious dessert.

Time to tap into your Girl Scouts' tastebuds! Expand your camp menus and entice girls to try new
techniques and flavors! This workshop will give you new ideas for snacks, appetizers, main courses,
and desserts. We'll work with box ovens, pie irons, unique cooking techniques, preparation, and short
cuts for camp cooking - and try a few twists on everyday menus.

sensitivities are becoming more common - so learning how to create fun, diverse menus can take any
event you're planning to the next level! Come explore alternative recipes and walk away with fresh
menu planning ideas.

How many times have you been in a park or forest and seen garbage? Or been disturbed by noise
from other campers or picnickers? Do things like this detract from your enjoyment of the outdoors?
As Girl Scouts, we want to leave a place looking better than we find it - and don't want to disturb
other people around us. These are principles of the Leave No Trace program of outdoor ethics.
Come and learn how to work with your girls to enjoy the outdoors - without loving it to death!
302 Weaving with Plastic Yarn – Lee Carr

Check out Weaving with Plastic Yarn! Your girls will love this material with a fun name - PLARN! Use
traditional weaving techniques combined with RRR (reuse/reduce/recycle) to create a place mat and
circular pom-pom flower.

Creating troop t-shirts can be a fun and unifying experience! Learn two ways to teach your girls how
to add designs on t-shirts using bleach. These are fun, easy, inexpensive, and unique projects.

Admit it: you've shied away from the Brownie Inventor badge, and sent the Junior Entertainment
Technology badge reqs home for Summer fun. You've said STEM just isn't your thing - but we want
to help you change! In this workshop you'll learn to impart the joys of tinkering on your troop and
you'll build your own Brush-Bot. You'll leave with hands-on ideas as well as practical skills and a plan
to get your girls on the road to some serious STEM.

Give your girls a tree to call their own! Learn the basics of tree identification so you can help your

DOUBLE SESSION This course runs from Session 3 through Session 4, you must attend both

During Indoor Overnight Skills, volunteers will learn progression and guidelines of overnight
experiences, understand how to incorporate the Girl Scout Leadership experience, be able to instruct
girls and adults on appropriate gear, and learn how to pack accordingly. Indoor Overnight Skills is
valid for five years, and must be completed prior to attending Basic Outdoor Skills.
901 Archery Instructor Certification – Randy Ravago

Are you ever stuck on what to do with your girls next? Have your girls seen the archery courses at

this all day course. Certification card included. There is an additional fee of $22 for this workshop.

Do your girls itch for fun, new experiences outdoors? Then this workshop is for you! Tent camping
with girls is unrestrictive and versatile. Learn the ins and outs of pitching tents and take your girls to
new places - other than GS camp!
404 Basic Crochet – Kristy Boon

No crochet skills? No Problem! Come learn basic crochet technique and make a quick and easy hair
bow (and possibly a headband) to wear home in the color of your choice. Make one to match any
outfit! Easy enough to teach your girls!

405 Why Does That Work? Is it Science or Fun? –Nancy DeHaven

Come learn about the GSEP Travel Pathway! Planning a troop trip? Learn about the required forms
and best practices for planning the best girl-led troop trips. Have girls that want to travel on their own?
Learn about Destinations and our council-sponsored trip to Costa Rica this summer! Interested in
global Girl Scouting? Get a taste for scouting around the world as you learn about WAGGGS and the
four World Centers. Are you a volunteer who loves to travel, has lots of travel experience (or would
like to get some), and wants to get more girls exploring the world through Girl Scouting? Learn about
GSEP’s new Global Action Volunteer Committee! There are tons of exciting adventures out there for
every girl!

We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to learn the classic Girl Scout skill of Knot Tying! Knot
tying is a basic, essential life skill. Learn 7 knots and make a knot board that you can take back to
teach your troop!
412 French Bulletin Boards – Marie Lord

A bulletin board that needs no thumb tacks? How does that work? Check out this workshop to learn
how to create a chic 12x16 French Bulletin Board using fabric, ribbon, and buttons!

Leaders interested in their troop's earning recognitions in the Catholic Church MUST have training.
This class fulfills that requirement for Daisy through Ambassador.

Having image issues? Learn how to turn your own unique face into a work of art! You'll make a
plaster mold of your face, then learn how to turn it into an inspiring and encouraging art form. An ideal
world for girls is only as far away as we let it be! This can be successfully used as an activity in the
Girltopia Journey. It also can meet some of the requirements for the Senior “Collage Artist” badge.
Bring: Your face must be clean (no make-up other than on eyes) and your hair must be tied back and
completely off of your face…plaster (casting material) will be put on your face. Wear old clothes - this
is a messy workshop!

Learn basic knit stitch and make a headband to wear home in the color of your choice. Easy enough
to teach your girls!

tapestry needle
511 Woven Indian Corn Door Decoration – Debra Zvanut

If your girls love seasonal creative projects - then this workshop is for you! Participants will learn the
basic skills needed to complete 3 Indian Corn in variegated fall colors. Skills include setting up the
spokes, continuous weaving, and wrapping. They will weave one or two ears of corn during this
workshop, and will leave with a kit to take home!
