Mary Barnett case Every mother loves their child. Nobody wants to kill their baby. If any mother kills their baby that means she is mentally ill or not physically fit. Mother never kills their child intentionally. Last time we study about Mary Barnett case. She left her six month old baby in her apartment alone, and went to California to visit her fiancé Tim. After that her baby was died in dehydration. In my point of view I feel that is an accident. If she was aware about that fact she will never do it. She also stated that she was mentally depressed. She was not able to think what she was doing. If we take some evidence from the witnesses we can see some differences. First witness Alice Jones told that her friend is a good mother. After Alison’s birth she has some postpartum depression. Because she is a single mother so she has some pressure to take care of her baby. Second witness is Dr. Bloom. He stated that, he was taking Mary’s interviews twice a week from last four months. He also saw Mary has some depression and mentally ill. Also she is emotionally disturbed. He told she needs professional help, not punishment. Dr. Parker a professional psychiatrist stated that based on his interviews he noticed that Mary is suffering from anxiety and depression. She has also some emotional problems. If we analyze these evidences we clearly see Mary is mentally ill person, and a mentally ill person can do anything. They are not able to think, and also don’t aware what they are doing. Mary’s neighbor Caroline told to the police Mary is a disgrace woman, but in my point of view I feel she has some personal enmity with Mary. She never saw anything wrong about Mary, because of some parties she told wrong thing about Mary. Maybe she drinks alcohol, but this is not proves, that she is a bad woman or killed her child. Officer Mitchell told when he reached to the apartment he saw defendant Mary was depressed, and upset. He didn’t see any marks or bruises on baby Alison. That means she don’t want to lose her baby Alison. She loves her. Finally, based on these testimonies I want to say that Mary Barnett is innocent. If she wants to kill her child she never give birth her child. She can abort her child. Nobody forced her to birth her child. After Alison’s birth she was a good mother, she caught with postpartum depression, that’s why she lost her mind and don’t know what she was doing. However, I feel Mary Barnett is the victim of mental illness and depression. She needs medical and professional help not punishment, so my verdict Mary Barnett is innocent.
