To the Teacher
The chart on the following pages provides unit-by-unit recommendations for what to teach in
each class of a 72-hour course and what to assign for homework. Each unit will take you about
six hours of class time (approximately 40 minutes per lesson). Note that the chart assumes that
your class meets twice a week for three hours each time. You may need to change the way the
material is divided if your class has a different schedule.
In general, we recommend the following:
In class
 Teach all Vocabulary lessons, all Listening and Speaking lessons, all Grammar lessons,
and the Life Skills lesson within each unit.
 In the Writing lesson, teach 1 Before You Write and 2 Thinking on Paper.
Homework
 Assign the Reading lesson, which students can do using the Student Book itself or the
Reading lesson in the Practice Plus CD-ROM.
 Assign the Grammar Review page for each unit.
 In the Writing lesson, assign 3 Write and 4 Check Your Writing.
 Optionally, assign all lessons of the Practice Plus CD-ROM and all lessons of the
Workbook as homework so students get daily practice.
