PASTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRIES Ministry Description Nappanee First Brethren Church 1600 North Main St., Nappanee, IN 46550 574-773-4252 www.firstbrethrenchurch.com DESCRIPTION Nappanee First Brethren Church is a 125 year old congregation with an average attendance of 300. We are affiliated with The Brethren Church (Ashland, OH), an evangelical body with Anabaptist/pietistic origin. We hold firmly to the inspiration and authority of God’s Word. PURPOSE Provide leadership, direction, and management of all aspects of the Children and Youth Ministry (nursery through college), including training & equipping of/for parents, using Orange strategies (as outlined in “Think Orange” by Reggie Joiner). In addition, to provide necessary pastoral support to the Senior Pastor and the congregation at large using Missional principles. RESPONSIBILITIES Youth Ministry 1. Lead/administrate/resource and promote comprehensive vision of Youth Ministry through the Think Orange strategy (XP3 curriculum). 2. Oversee the recruitment and development of volunteer youth staff. Conduct regular planning meetings, including regular communications. 3. Maintain regular, effective lines of communication between the youth ministry to the youth and their families, as well as to the church overall. 4. Establish and facilitate regular youth meetings (i.e. small groups, Bible studies, social gatherings, etc). 5. Develop and maintain youth leadership team, complete with regular planning meetings. 6. Managing Jr. High & Sr. High Discipleship teachers and curriculum. 7. Promote district and national youth participation. 8. Expose youth to service opportunities in and around the local community, as well as within the church and short-term mission trips. 9. Maintain individual interaction with youth (online interaction: Facebook, Twitter, Email & personal interaction: attend extra curricular events, school visits). Children’s Ministry & Parents’ Ministry 1. Oversee the spiritual development and fulfillment of the children’s ministry vision. 2. Lead forward in the Think Orange Process by manage/administrate/equip and resource the curriculum & staffing for First Look (pre-school) & 252 (Elementary). 3. Assist Christian Education Ministry in Development of the children’s ministry team through recruiting, orientation, training, organizing, and encouraging. 4. Provide leadership, guidance and resourcing for Parents in conjunction with the curriculum. 5. Develop, oversee and evaluate the processes that ensure the safety and security of all children during all programs. 116108148 – Nappanee First Brethren Church edit 3.13.2013 1 Other Pastoral Duties 1. Assist with planning and implementation of Sunday morning worship services (including preaching as needed). 2. Participate in all Staff and Advisory Board meetings. 3. Provide counseling on an as needed basis. 4. Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms and baby dedications as needed. Denomination/Community 1. Represent the church by serving on appropriate committees or boards of the Brethren Church (Ashland, OH) and the Indiana District of the Brethren Church. 2. Participate in monthly district Youth Pastor’s Cluster. 3. Be involved in the life of the community. Continuing Ed 1. Attend conferences/seminars for professional development. 2. Regularly read various books, articles, blogs related to ministry. RELATIONSHIPS Associate staff position, accountable to the Senior Pastor and Pastoral Relations Committee. Relates closely with other office staff, ministry leaders, the congregation; as well as to the community. QUALIFICATIONS The candidate must be a committed and growing follower of Jesus Christ with an evangelical understanding of Scripture and a missional understanding of the Church. Undergraduate Degree or training in Youth Ministry strongly recommended. A Master in Youth Ministry, Christian Education or Divinity degree is preferred but not mandatory. Candidate should also be team-oriented. Be detail-oriented and organized, able to manage an annual budget and engage in long-range planning; proficient in planning and executing retreats, camps and mission trips. A minimum of 1 year pastoral experience is also preferred due to the demands of this position. The candidate’s spiritual gift mix may include administration, leadership, teaching, exhortation, pastor/shepherd, evangelism and mercy. Crucial elements for the candidate are to have a heart for children; a passion for and ability to relate well with middle and high school students with an ability to communicate Biblical truth in a way that is engaging and relevant to the issues they face, desiring to see them develop as maturing disciples; and a heart for family-based ministry, with ability to inspire and equip parents to be the primary spiritual leaders of their children.
