Florida Public Health Nursing Legacy Project
2008-2009 Task Force Annual Report
New Task Force created in the Fall of 2008
Purpose: To Preserve and Promote Florida’s Public Health Nursing Legacy
Goals and Objectives attachedInitial Projects:
- Career Journey Referral Form and Interview Templates- attached
- Career Journeys of Delores Wennlund and Cora Brannon in progress
- Career Journeys of Joyce Ely and Jules Graves completed
- Membership on the Advisory Board for the FL Museum of PH and Medicine
- Research: State Archive, Drs. Prather, Dr. Mahan and Russ Jackson, FMA
- Beginning collection of photos and other memorabilia
- Creation of an Exhibit for Legacy Project
- Partnership with the DOH Office of PHNursing
2008-2009 Projects:
- Action Plan for 2008-09 to be developed
- Solicitation of nurses to conduct interviews for securing the information of the
career journeys of FL PHNurses, including special attention to CMS nurses
- Completion of the development of a data base for Career Journey Referrals
- FAPHN web site development for Legacy information
- Development of a Resources Guide with access on FAPHN web site
- Development of an online format for the career journey publication
- Determine sources of grant funds and identify someone to search and write
grants to expand the funding of the work of the Legacy Project
- Development of Booklets for publication of individual career journeys
- Scholarly publication and presentations of the career journeys and sharing of
the FL experience in developing the Legacy Project
- Formation of a multi state task force in partnership with ASTDN for networking
and sharing

Purpose, Goals and Objectives: Florida Public Health Nursing Legacy Project
Purpose: To preserve and promote Florida’s public health nursing history.
Goals/Objectives:
I. To recognize and appreciate the commitment of public health nurses.
A. capture memories and recollections with oral histories
B. link the project with FAPHN and elicit support for the project from the membership
C. compile a database of public health nurses with notable contributions to the field.
II. To educate and inspire the future generation of public health nurses.
A. disseminate information by presenting nursing histories at conferences, etc.
B. write articles for publications in journals, newsletters, etc.
C. Promote ongoing compilation of individual histories by interested public health nurses
by providing a forum for publication and research assistance.
III. To preserve historical information about Florida nursing.
A. locate, protect and preserve historical documents, artifacts, and memorabilia.
B. establish a website and a virtual museum
C. establish a physical location for an archival collection
D. establish a biographical data base of public health nurses
