New findings of the doctoral thesis: Based on studies, analysis of the
journalistic career and biographical portrayal of the journalist Phan Khoi, the doctoral
thesis has synthesized and reviewed contributions of Phan Khoi to the development of
Vietnam’s Press in the early twentieth century, thereby yielding new findings as
followed:
- Contributions of Phan Khoi to the Vietnam’s Press in the early twentieth
century: Firstly, the progressive socio – political perspectives from journalistic works
of Phan Khoi have helped raise the public’s socio – political awareness. Secondly, Phan
Khoi has significant contributions to the development of Vietnamese as demonstrated
through studies of grammar, vocabulary and phonetics of Vietnamese; studies of
modern expressions advancement in journalistic language and the role of the press in
popularizing Vietnamese for the people and society. Thirdly, through extensive
journalistic activities, Phan Khoi developed innovative skills and cognitions of
journalism. Fourthly, Phan Khoi has made important contributions in positioning and
developing various genres of journalism, particularly of which are skit, commentary and
monograph.
- Through analysing and illuminating contributions of Phan Khoi to Vietnam’s
Press in the early twentieth century, findings of the research have generate a new and
more just approach in evaluating journalistic career of Phan Khoi despite his limitations
at some particular historical period. His perspective on the role and responsibilities of
journalists in influencing society through professional activities, as well as on the
professional ethics remain invaluable lessons to researchers and practitioners in
journalism today.
- Other research possibilities: Nationalistic political viewpoints in journalistic
works of Phan Khoi; journalistic artistry of Phan Khoi; Phan Khoi’s contributions in
Vietnamese usage and modern expression advancement in Vietnam’s Press the first half
of the twentieth century, biographical portrayal of journalist – scholar Phan Khoi in
light of the overall picture of Vietnam’s Press.
